Annoying Check Engine Light

My co-worker has an 03 Cummins, and when the weather gets cold as it is starting to now, he gets a check engine light for the battery temps being low. How can we eliminate this problematic check engine light for this nothing code?

Pull the batteries, take the temp sensors out of the battery trays and zip tie them out of the way and put the batteries back in. Works in Alaska?
