Where is the dinger or the door chime located at. That thing drives me crazy when tring to do something with the door open.

I looked but not that hard, I could not find it.

What do you have to do to unhook it, Just unplug it?

TIA

Adam

Solution:

To eliminate door chime with key in the ignition but keep chime active to remind you to turn the head lights off:

Remove the plastic cover on the steering column. You will need a torx T?? driver to do this. A hex key wrench will also work as I use one to remove the T?? screws recessed in the deep holes on the underside of the cover.

There will be a rectangular (4 wire) plug on the underside of the ignition switch. Unplug this.

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the colour of the wire to remove, but it is either wire position 1 or 4. Remove wire 1 from the connector and plug in the connector. If this was the wrong wire, reinstall wire 1 and remove wire 4 from the connector. Put electrical tape over the end of the removed wire and reinstall the plug (now with only 3 wires).

I have done this on a number of trucks of most years. Normally, this procedure takes no more than about 5 minutes, including finding torx screw driver.

Enjoy listening to your radio with the drivers door open without the anoying chime!

Regards, Marc

Or, if you are like me,, you can put your foot in the door to press the switch that turns the lights on, makes the chime go off etc.

Put your foot in there, press that button, and then slip, and Viola!, the button will break,, now go around to the other side, and do the same thing,, all your problems about the lights turning on when you open the door, and that annoying little chimer will go away.

ok, well actually, The previous owner,, ok, ok, it was my Dad,, he broke the little button, but he did it the way I described,, just not on purpose,, ok,, maybe a LITTLE on purpose,, He fell asleep with his foot on the button and when he slipped it broke off, afew weeks later he fell asleep on the other side... ... :)

Adam, on my '95s I disabled the dinger, which is located a little left of center under the dash by just opening the box and removing a disc the size of a quarter from it. Of course now I have absolutely no dinger, the wire at the key may be better for you. If you remove the wrong wire the light around your key hole won't work. Two of the wires are for the dinger, the other two for the light.

With the door open, I just push the door switch in, then release and the chime stops. If you close the door you have to repeat. This is on a '98.

Cancel my previous question,

I just took my cover off and it's only a 2 wire connector, so I unpluged it and... ... ... ... ..... no darn dinger!! Everything else seems to work correctly. How cool, and simple to do, fer a change. :D
