Fellow TDR member C-hawk just called me to let me know he broke into the 12s finally with his 2002 quad cab 4x4. He ran a bunch of traction limited 13. 04'-13. 07's, with 1. 8 60 ft times. After dropping tire pressure he got a clean launch that netted him a 12. 90@ 103. 6 mph.

What is incredible is that this truck is only running a Drag Comp,a set of DD 2's,a DD hx40,and the typical 4" exhaust/air filter, all funneled thru a DTT trans with all the goodies.

The air today was absolutely horrible as well, high 80s and over 90 % humidity, terrible for making horsepower.

Congratulations Chris, your truck is incredible. Chris will fill in the details when he is able to post in a few days.

YEEE HAAA!!! Good goin Chris!!! I think the transmission Man need congrates too!!! another awesome trans John!! Is there 11's in that thing??? we'll see end of the summer... .

Congratulations Chris, that 12. 90 with a single turbo is just frigen awesome. Youre gona make me wish I'd left that tubocharger on my truck. Merv

Congratulations Chris, what a great run. Seems like there is a new breed of truck emerging these days, very simple and relatively cheap set ups are really putting out some good times at the track. Bring that truck on up to Maple Grove next weekend, there are going to be some other very strong trucks there and we could really put on a show.

Merv, if you want a turbo like that, I am selling mine.

Ted

Hey Ted

Ive got too much invested in my twins,I was chuckling to my self cause the HX40 that chris is running was the turbocharger I took off my truck to inorder to put in twins. Merv

:D :D :D

Thanks everyone.

I know 12's aren't all that uncommon anymore, but I can't believe my truck has done it with the mods it has.

Like John said, I'm only running DD2's, Drag Comp, HX40, FASS system, 4" exhaust and an AFE intake. My highest dyno numbers, which i got with this setup were 459hp/935tq. The truck was at full weight, minus the tailgate.

My biggest thanks goes out to John and DTT. That transmission is set up perfect. It makes the most possible out of the hp that i have. Those times prove it. There is more in the truck as it is. I just need to find traction. My best 60' of the night was a 1. 72. If I can stop spinning i'll be able to leave with more boost (only left with 12psi on my 12. 90 pass) and shave more off of my et's.

Scott. 11's???

:--)

That would be too much fun. Guess we'll find out.

Merv, your old turbo has been good to me. :) Haven't seen you in a while. Hope to see you again sometime soon.

Ted... What's the date for Maple Grove? If i'm not busy i may have to make a trip up there.

If your interested...

Here are my times from my run the other night.

60' ---------------- 1. 725

330' -------------- 5. 214

1/8 ---------------- 8. 165

1/8 mph ----------- 83. 44

1000 -------------- 10. 723

1/4 ---------------- 12. 903

1/4 mph ------------ 103. 60

R/T... no one needs to know that.

Chris

Nice, Chris! Part of a small club... :)

That's a real decent 60'.

How often do you race? I've also been in the 12's a number of times, but ran into a plethora of problems due to (I believe) running high boost on a single.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you putting out for boost (launch and at max), and what are your temps like at max?

Rhonda,

I was spinning in 4wd all night long trying to leave at only 15-18psi. That was giving me 1. 8 60's. I actually launched at 12psi when i got the 1. 72 60'. It was the only time that night the truck actually hooked. I'm running an 89 converter. I know you run DTT as well, so our boost #'s should be comparable. Some of the other trannies can leave at much higher boost, and not spin the tires or even break stock input shafts from most of what i've read on here. lol Their power just doesn't get to the wheels until lock-up. If i try leaving at 20, it spins so bad the truck just about bounces off the ground. BAD wheel hop.

I have the HX40 wastegated at 40psi. Sometimes it will creep up to 42, but that's rare. I'm just not comfortable with any hx40's above that level of boost.

EGT's are usually 1450 or a little more by the end of the track. It was hot the other day (high 80's and humid) and i was pegging the gauge at 1500 by the end of the track.

Thanks Chris. Interesting comparisons...

My best times were at 55psi or more, and my temps have always been 1600+ when under full throttle for more than a couple seconds. I am running a pretty good amount of fuel...

Your traction problems are similar to mine. However, my best runs usually start with just a bit of slip, usually 15-18lbs, depending on track conditions. I've never been able to use 20 or more, just put on a show... :D

I can't imagine a better performing transmission; when do you l/u (I won't tell Bill ;) )?

LOL. Yeah, I bet. Anyway, as long as i'm smiling going down the track, Bill must be happy right. :) To answer your question, i locked it early in 3rd.

Bad enough that i could make large improvements in my R/T's and still suck. :)

I haven't figured out how to watch the boost gauge and the tree at the same time. I'm working on it. :D

Chris

Chris, build your boost after lighting only the first light. Get your boost, hold steady, then creep forward into the second light. Your ear will tell you it's right, using rpm, so you can keep your eyes on the light. You can practice this on a side road, as you don't have to launch or burnoff or anything...

If you still can't seem to get your light, going in deeper may help (but will make your 60' look a bit slower).

I l/u in second, right after throwing it out of 4x4, and it makes a difference.

gottorq33,

I'm on the Eastern Shore... just across the bay bridge.

I usually race at capitol raceway in crofton since it's the closest one for me. Let me know if you ever plan on going. I'd like to see you run. You've got way more fuel than i do. 12's shouldn't be a problem for ya. :)

Rhonda,

Thanks for the tips. I'll keep them in mind and see if i can't improve a little.

chris

Chris,

Believe it or not, some traction bars will help that truck hook. By just adding the traction bars, I cut almost a full tenth off my 60 ft times. I was getting consistant 1. 6 60 ft times, launching under 15 lbs (the brakes could never hold more than that) before I started having all of my issues which lead to the blue trucks retirement :{ Man I liked racing that truck, but I guess it all worked out, cause my grey one is alot faster :D and the blue one will definately suprise you still, even while towing the real race truck.

The Maple Grove race is this coming Saturday, it would be great if you could make it.

Gottorq33,

Maple Grove is only a few hours away for you too. With the both of you, we would have a nice gathering of 12, and hopefully a few 11 second trucks.

Either way we could all hook up some Friday or Saturday night at either Capitol or MIR (alot better track) and put on a show for the non-believers.

Ted
