Ok with 11k on the clock after 4 months of ownership I want to change my 6 speed and front and rear differential oils.

I would like to use a red line product in the diff. 's (since it is readily avail. ) and not sure what to use in the 6-speed?

Joe D. used Pennzoil in an old post I believe?

Any good recomendations on the above ?

Also how many quarts for each application?

Thanks,

keith

I used Redline in everything when I changed oils. They make a MTL which I used in the transmission. I think it improved shifting some and so far no problems.

I'll check in the morning to see what weight I used. It is for manual transmissions. I beleive MTL is for manual transmission lube. There have been quite a few threads on this subject and Redline is one of the products that a lot of us are using.

I recently changed to MTL in my NV5600, wow what a difference in downshifting, it actually happens! Very pleased with results, had about the same miles on the truck (11000). Great stuff.

Redline MTL is the exact correct weight for our transmission, 30-weight engine oil equivalent.

Some tried Royal Purple but it's too thin, around 15 to 20 weight on the engine oil scale.

I'm not familiar with the Pennzoil, I'm leary of Pennzoil products in general and the thread with the pics of the gear test set using Pennzoil didn't help either.

I got the Redline products at Silver Automotive in Red Deer. They have a complete stock of the Redline products and at a reasonable price. Check the Redline site for dealers to see if you have one in Calgary.

Yeah right - but the Royal Purple Synchromax 'works great'.

Since when are you a lubricant formulator Vaughn?

If you haven't tried it, why make a negative comment... ...

RP has formulated in 4-5 times the oil film strength as compared to the MTL or Pennzoil / Texaco OE stuff so you actually have superior wear protections without sacrificing shift performance.

redram I was born one, where have you been? ;)

True I have not tried RP, and all I've done is print out the spec sheets for both RP and Redline MTL and compared them carefully, but even with great film strength you've got to think about the torque the Cummins belts out and for anyone hauling heavy loads I would think you'd want the proper viscosity fluid in there. Also the syncrhos are designed for a certain viscosity and may not work properly if the lube is too light. Did you see the thread where someone having shifting trouble with RP had the problem cleared up with Redline? Maybe RP works fine for people but I don't think for many folks it's the best choice. Just my humble opinion though ;)
