I second aFe. I've oil sampled my last 5 oil changes with my silicon being no higher than 7 (4) and no lower than 3 (1). of those 5 oil samples, 4 were with the aFe PG7 and one with the Fleetguard. The Fleetguard was the highest although I am not sure why. I expected the Fleetguard to be the lowest as I was looking for positive quantifiable proof to remove the aFe and go back to paper. I have not received that and have therefore returned to the aFe.

I run the Fleetguard. The price is better than the local Dodge dealership... . not really into washing and re-using... I like the idea of throw it away and get another one. . Just laziness on my part.

I believe this magazine published dyno results that proved that there was no benefit to using an aftermarket filter until you exceeeded 450 hp. If you want the whistle, that's another story.

I recently replaced the stock air intake with an aftermarket (S&B, was disappointed in the quality of the plastic) and noticed a instant difference in the computed fuel mileage. I don't pay much attention to the computer calculated mileage on the overhead and can't remember when I last reset it, but after I installed the new intake, I took a look at it and it was reading 21. 1. Over the next 2 days I watched it slowly come up to 21. 4, this was with it trying to overcome the average for the previous ? months. So I reset the display and just running back and forth to work and around town for a few days it is at 24. 2. Not very scientific or accurate necessarily but still an indication of an definite increase. Sure there is a whistle too, but just keep the stereo on!

The Mopar 53034249AA is the new high efficiency filter, with higher dirt retention capacity and has pleats that are about 3-1/2" deep. Looks completely different from the original stock ones (see here). Came out in Sep '09 for the '03-'07 5. 9L engines. Similar to the even deeper pleats in the '08-'10 trucks, Fleetguard AF 27684 (which don't fit the '03 - '07 air box).

The Fleetguard AF-26106 and the Mopar 53032700 are the older, original style with pleats ~1-3/4" deep and the foam across the pleats.

Genos has updated their images of the filter on their website.
