I have a Killdeer in my driveway... ... nesting... ... and setting on four eggs. My driveway... ... ..... :rolleyes:

Should I ;

run over the eggs? :confused:

build a shelter for the bird?

move the eggs?

or drive around the nest for the next several weeks? :(

I'm kind of partial to Killdeer. I like watching them run around. They're pretty funny. Sure, the easy way out would be to run over them. However, they don't take long to hatch, and almost as soon as they're out of the shell, they are running around on their own.

The type of gravel you have on your driveway is perfect for them, as the eggs blend in the best. I have marked the eggs before to avoid them. Usually paint a circle around the area... . but I know that you would NEVER do that!! :-laf :-laf

Thanks tugger. I knew you'd know. I'll simply wait it out. I like having them around running with the little "tooth pick" leggs and all. I laid out a log to prevent ... ... well... . it could get ugly.

I have to go with "wait for 'em" too. They are neat litte birds, and once they hatch, they go. No waiting around like nest dwellers. We get them in the parks in dirt lots. If you put a barricade over the nest, kids always go look to see what's there, and well, you know kids. If we don't barricade them, they get run over. It's a no win! :{

Think I'd just set up a saw horse over them and let them hatch. If you get close while they are there you'll get the benefit of the show that mama will put on. I'm lucky I guess, only bird in my driveway is... ... .

They are nifty little things. That picture looks like it's at MY house! Is that a picture taken from space!? LOL

There are two of 'em. The one on the nest will run about, spin round and round flopping one wing and making tons of noise. ROF... It's funny.
