I just talked with a clutch modification/manufacturing shop, they make commercial clutches and clutches for prostock tractors and trucks for many local pullers. They say they can and have taken the stock clutch in a Dodge diesel and added various ? materials (CB4) to the plate to make it hold under extreme HP and torque. They claim they can make the stock clutch capable of 900+ torque. According to them, they will not use heavier springs to accomplish this. So this means the pedal pressure will be like stock.
The old saying goes: "if it sounds to good to be true, then look out!"
I don't know, but they said a modification like this depending on the amount of material used runs at the most $200. plus throwout bearing.
Has anyone did this? Any thoughts, concerns?
As of now I'm still skeptic, I'll probably just spring for a "proven" clutch.
What do you think?
