I know that the CTD *sounds* like it really hates running when started cold, no block heater, in sub-freezing temps, but is it really any more harmful to run it like this than a gasser?

I just don't have the luxury of plugging in at work (where the truck sits outside all day). Luckily temps in Boston aren't really that cold, but it's often below freezing.

cd... ... ... .

I work in Westwood, so we're in the same boat (so to speak)

All I do before I leave work is start up (after the light goes out), wait for te oil pressure to go up and slowlly raise the rpm's to around 1300 (with the defroster on to add a little load). Hold the rpm's for about 30 seconds, wait another 30 seconds, then drive away keeping the rpm's below 2k until it is at operating temp.

After about 1-1/2 - 2 miles, I'm usually up to temp.

My opinion is that it is no more harmful than a gasser. Even if it is I really don't care, I need to drive the truck and that is that. I don't worry about plugging it in, if I can great otherwise just start it and go. I think the important thing is to get it to full operating temp and keep it there as long as possible as often as you can. Lots of short trips that never warm it up would be hard on it.

Not picking on anyone, but you are never going to find a more anal bunch than this forum about care and feeding of a truck. Some of these guys drive a shrine, and that is fine by me. Mine is a truck that I need for my daily transportation (a really cool truck :D ) but nothing more. I figure it will last a lot longer than I want it to with regular maintenance the way I use it. My opinion.

I also live in the Boston area, I figure the engineers who designed these things have to realize that 99% of the people who drive these things in colder climates aren't goint to have the luxury of plugging them in at work, the shopping mall, airport parking, etc... .

I've been reading the threads on the high idle flash and made an appointment to get mine done at Santillis in Brockton next week, seems like a 50/50 shot of it workinig from what I see on this site. From the response of the service writer I spoke to on the phone this morning I don't think they ever heard of it. He asked me to bring a copy of the TSB! Needless to say, Ill be lookiing over the techs shoulder as the work is done.
