2" crack on passenger side above oil pan between the transmission lines. (looking up it's between the lines) What is the first step in getting this fixed. Power goodies will be off, but what about the pdr 40, it will be tough to go back to the 3" down pipe since Jordan doesnt have one. Can he go to a cummins shop or does he have to go to the stealer?

Are there any service bulletins or info from Cummins on the 53 block?

71000, With only dd2 and comp he has a lot less than some of the members. I guess you didn't read that there was a casting flaw in that series of block.

Keep us posted...

az, keep us posted on what they do; new block or some kind of repair to the existing block.

If they do a repair to the existing block, I would like to know if it is approved by Cummins and what they do in case it ever happens to mine. I am a member of the "53" club. :D :--) :D

I better go buy another truck! :-laf

Couldn't ask for a better excuse... . :D Oo.

Just a thought , but does his truck happen to have the 4:10 rear in it ? It may be a coincidince but it seems that the failures that I have read on here seem to be in trucks with the 4:10 gear. Increased R. P. M. ? / vibration ? Just a thought. Also I have seen some members say that they have a 53' on both sides of the blockl , mine only has it on the pump side , any thoughts?

Where is it??

Where is this number 53 supposed to be?? I crawled under mine and looked under the pump and didn't see anything. Are these supposed to big numbers that are easily read?? I thot about unbolting the wire loom that passes by the oil pan and looking there?? Are these numbers down low by the pan or up high below the pump?? To be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for other than numbers 53. Please let me know... THANKS!!!

Mtngoat...

About 1" high numbers above the oil pan on the left side of the block below the power steering pump. I don't think it will be necessary to move the wire loom. If it is a "53" block, it will have nothing but "53" stamped in the location just described.

Come join the "53" Club. I have one and am at 130,700+ miles and no problems yet. Work her hard daily. :D

Jordan has 3. 55. The truck was left at the dealer this morning, they have a new short block on its way. Fingers are crossed everything works when they are done. I'll post a pic of the crack just give me a minute.

Just a note

After reading this post any many more like it I decided to check mine also. I believe some people are looking at the wrong number in regards to the long, smaller, hard to read numbers and the location of the numbers. My block unfortunately has the dreaded 53, mine is stamped on both sides of the block directly across from each other towards the front. you must look from under the truck to see the 53. I also have a list of numbers i. e. 8141010 or something close to that, hard to read, these are just above and a little towards the rear of the 53, seen from under the truck and through the wheel well. I'm just curious if some that are seeing the list of numbers are not getting under and looking closer, as I did the first time I looked. I saw the list and figured I did not have the 53, but after a closer look there it was. So don't take this the wrong way but if see a list of numbers I would go underneath and look a little closer. Only speaking from experience.

OOps one more thing my build date was 5-00 in Mexico

We went to Dodge Friday to check out the progess being made on Jordans truck. What we found was a brand new 56 short block sitting on the floor. I was curious to know how the old block looked, because Jordan is not easy on his truck. You could still see all of the cross hatch marks on all of the cylinders. The top of the pistons looked brand new also. They said it might even be done by next wednesday. All very good news!
