My 99 with 156,000 on it :D, needs a new tps/apps:( ( same ol' drop the throttle while driving problem). But after reading through the posts in here I see where some have bought them from the local Dodge *tealer, some from Cummins, some say from NAPA and other parts stores. :confused:Anyone care to comment on where to get one at a reasonable price :-{}(not possible from the *tealer). #@$%!
 
I too will be looking for an APPS soon, I had a little bobble and code 0121 thrown about a week ago.

Cummins told me it was a Dodge dealer item only.



Does anyone else have any other info?
 
My APPS is dead as well. It has been failing for some time and I have been keeping my eye on the threads for APPS/TPS problems. Here is what I have learned:



1) The 24v sensor is an APPS. The 12v sensor is a TPS. The TPS sensors are cheap and you can get them from Cummins or NAPA. The APPS sensors are expensive (about $400) and are dodge only.



2) The are some posts about "fixing" or rewiring the apps. I believe that the rewire stuff is mostly for the TPS sensors and not the APPS. From what I've read the "take it apart and fix it" thing is more trouble than it is worth.



3) The only place to get an APPS is Dodge and it is the whole throttle assembly.





If any of this is incorrect please let us know. I would love to not have to fork over$450 to Dodge.





If anyone knows of a decent dealership in the bay area that would give me a decent price for an APPS I would appreciate it. The dealership here in Vallejo sucks.
 
Bought mine from cummins, part # 3937161 that is for a 99'.

It should save you a few $$$$.

Had mine for sale on the classifieds but the last couple of days it started the loss of throttle for a second then pick it back up.

The real kicker is, it started as soon as i replaced my lift pump and banjo bolts and thats all i touched.

Going to try some dielectric grease on connections first before the apps.
 
I cleaned an APPS last week and last I heard it was still working, I removed the APPS and sprayed contact cleaner in where the pivot is then worked it around with a screwdriver and blew it out with air to dry it, probably not a permanent solution but it seemed to solve the problem for now.

Clean it!

I've had several times troubles with the apps. I always clean it with a good shot of contact cleaner... . works every time for me.



Before you spend your money for an expensive part give the contact cleaner a chance...

I HAVE BEEN THRU THE WHOLE TPS/APPS THING I HAVE A 98. S 24 VALVE MY APPS HAS A 6 PRONG PLUG THIS IS THE EXPENCESIVE ONE MY FRIEND WHO WORKS AT A PLYMOUTH DEALER AND HAS ACCESS TO DODGE PARTS SAYS THERE IS 3 DEFFERANT TPS/APPS FOR 1998. I HAVE DONE THE HOLE TAKE IT APPART THING AND IT IS A WASTE OF TIME, THERE ARE COMPUTER CHIPS AND ELECTRONIC INSIDE IT IS NOT JUST A RAYOSTAT LIKE MANY SAY MAYBE ON THE 12V BUT NOT ON THIS 6 PRONG PLUG 1998. S 24 VALVE I DID GET MINE THRU A FRIEND AT DEALER COST OF$297. 00 BUT THE WAY TO TELL IS TO CHECK THE READING ON THE OUTPUT SIGNAL IF IT IS MORE THAN 2 POINTS JUMP REPLACE IT GOOD LUCK... .
 
mine is going out now also, it would seem that this is a product that does not care for satisfaction in performance & needs to be reworked to be more reliable. i hope there is somebody out there that cares that too many of us are spending $400 a pop for something that is not going to last. i am going to try the contact cleaner route & hope it takes care of it. in my oppinion this is a real safety hazard & any of us could get T-BONED by a vehicle any time we are crossing trafic. this sucks!
 
i have a good friend that works at a dodge dealer and i can get one for $375. don't know if that helps or not just thought i would share. don't know how many i could get, but i'm willing to try. ;)
