Miss me? Been sick a few weeks in the hospital

NO DISRESPECT TO THE GREAT STATE OF WV, JUST RESPECT!

I spent many a Thanksgiving week in Ritchie County, North Central (?) WV and I miss it ALOT. I was born in N. Ohio, go 300 or so miles south and it is a different planet. The country side, the description that D4L gave, man it hits a note. Watching the "up the holler" neighbors take off into town for a beer run, qualifiers: freakin cold and nasty, at night, drizzling and on a four wheeler. About 50 min later back with the beer. Addresses, Star Route 80, yup it works. One of the fun things is when my buddy Mike (he migrated to Cleveland for work) would get with his brothers and the local brother would give directions to the transplanted brother on where something was, WHAT A HOOT! Subaru's galore in the backyard as parts cars, might need that 'un someday.

Sometimes opening morning Monday of Thanksgiving week, sounds like artillery practice in the hills. Squirrel hunting, what a great way to spend a day. Sighting make that "checking a rifle?? before Monday, one year they downed a 12" tree with one too many rounds, bounced off of the powerline and all.

But if I was in a tight spot, I'd want a WV guy next to me.

Man I really miss that week in WV. I set up my Timberline tent and camped out all week, rain or snow, just didn't want to be in the cabin with the nightly "chorus" of hunters.

Well, if I ever get out that way, I'm going to look up a good guide to show me around. :)

If ya find a good one let me know his name ill check him out. Just let us know when PLUS at least a Month or 2 ahead of time we make plans that far ahead for summer time activities. Check out the local cafes the BIG-NASTY-UGLY GUY in front of the one is really not a cowboy he is a city slicker that likes to pretend he is:-laf

Well I will be the one to bring it up D4L DID ANY OF THEM PLAY THE BANJO? That would have been my first thought  JUST KIDDING

Ive only used our gps a small handful of times most of them in the city when I dont have a clue where I am but I really had no choice the first time I went to WV I was talking to a local landowner over the internet he gave me the coordinates he said that was the only way your ever gonna find us and boy was he right it sounds like a few of the guys here can vouch for me you can get turned around quicker than a coon dog chasin his tail in that part of the country its not like big sky country in your neck of the woods out west its nothin to be able to stand on a lookout and see 50 miles in one direction down in the holler ur lucky to see 50 yards in one direction in some spots

GHarmon, your absolutely right we were very fortunate we came across a well tempered group. Believe me, my stomache turned real quick when we crested the hill and realized we were on somebodys property and not on a public road. On our way back down, we were lookin for signs of any kind thinkin we had to of missed SOMETHIN. No road sign, no trespassing sign, nothing. And thats the way it is down there. I love going there every year, we spend a week a year camping and fourwheeling its some of the prettiest country Ive seen. Some of the most dangerous as well, weve had our share of rollovers and spills in the back country and seen and heard of more people than Id care to admit bieng life flighted out of there because they got in over their heads.

GCroyle, where at in Ohio were you born? Im in Ashtabula County, the northeastern most county in the state. Pa is to our east and lake erie is our northern border. You mentioned Cleveland, my wife has to make the trip up there every now and again for work. Were within about an hour and a half of the city.

Them W Virginians do take their alcohol serious dont they? Weve met some locals down there out on the trails and ended up drinkin with a few of them. weve found ourselves wakin up the next morning askin each other what the H*** happened the night before as everyone Ive ever met has broken out a quart (or more) of the clear stuff and passed it around liberally. Ive had some real good times down in that thar holler!!
