My brother buys Diesel for the company he works for. They average about a tanker load (eighteen wheeler) a day. They have 3 companies that they buy from, and they fax him their prices. Last quote Saturday (10-1-05) was $2. 68 (all non-road tax, red diesel). When he got to work Monday morning, fax waiting quoted at $2. 98 delivered. Next quote, at around lunch Monday, $2. 75. Last quote at 4:00 pm $2. 78. First quote Tuesday morning $2. 42 :{ . Last quote on Tuesday $2. 45. Have not been able to talk to him today (10/05/2005)
If you guys can't see the manipulation by the commodities markets you are blind. When fuels are sold, it is on a bid basis at the rack. If you aren't holding a contract you bid, or pay the asking price. Hope this helps.
