Read thru many pages of the search button--but did not find what is considered proper shut down temps--

I have my prope at pre-turbo

I have heard 350??? what do you all say! thanks, Rocky

Not positive about newer models, my truck's shutdown temp is 350. I usually let is come down to around 250-300 though, just to make sure the oil has had a chance to carry away some heat before it quits flowing and to let the turbo slow as much as possible.

I let it get to 300. If it's hot outside, it seems mine will stay at 300 forever. I'm not patient enough to wait 'til 250...

My UPS man has a cummins diesel in his rig, I asked him why he just doesn't let it idle between stops , Boss said to shut down at every stop. He got over 200K out of the first motor till a sub didn't watch the temp gauge and lunched it . So go figure... ...

I recommend using a bypass filter , idling no filtration

I get it to 300 - but I have to caveat that. With a pre-turbo probe you don't really know how hot the turbo is, you just know the temperature of the exhaust gasses going into it. It can take a while to cool the turbo down. I don't pull heavy loads but when I had a post-turbo probe (which I don't anymore) I sometimes had to wait a more than a few minutes (such as after pulling off the highway into a rest area) for it to cool off. With a pre-turbo probe under the same conditions it gets to 300 a lot quicker. So I often give it more time even if my pre-turbo probe is at or below 300. I think the owners manual has some guidelines on cooldown times for those without probes. They are a good starting point.

I do 235* pre turbo using the BD X-Monitor. No worries about too much heat in the turbo that way. Make sure you turn your AC off and if you have an auto put it in neutral or park or you'll never see that temp.

I normally use 300 degrees on my Gen II on the advice of many TDR members but a Cummins engineer speaking during a break between sessions at the Pre-Gen III launch Cummins/TDR rally at the CMEP in Columbus, IN during summer 2002 told me 350 is completely safe.
