I'm gonna get some stuff from Rip Rook to finish off my exhaust system. That guy is  . Here're the questions: how loud is the allied muffler he sells? Is it obnoxious at all on long trips? Does anyone know how it compares to the magnaflow that jardine uses as far as noise? Thanks much!

Chris

I'd like some feed back too cause the magnaflow on my jardine drives me batty at 85 MPH(2400) 70-75 or 2000-2100 is not bad though but it's worse in the last 15K, it's like if the exhaust doesn't give you a head ache the stereo will to drown it out!

Jim

I have had the muffler from Rip install for about a month. It is like stock sound inside even on long trips, but outside i had a guy come up to me and asked if I had a CDL for that rig. Sounds great and I love it. Geoff in EverettOo. Oo. Oo.

walker

I dont know how the three (allied, magnaflow, walker) compair to each other but I have the 21476 or some such # walker 4"in and out muffler and I LIKE it I have not noticed any droan at any RPM , maybe its just me.

Hey cummins corvette... if you get down provo way somtime we should get togeather, I would like to ride a DTT settup.

I like my Jardine setup, but with the 4. 10's, the drone in the cab when towing the 5ver at 65-70 MPH (2200-2350 RPM) is a pain. :( We're running the Magnaflow muffler supplied by Jardine.

Hey Rusty

You might try some Dynamat. It sticks to the interior of the cab, underneath the carpet. Might help you isolate the cab from other noise. Just a thought.

I have the same muffler and dont notice any added noice inside until I reach 85 then it comes in a little, but that could be other noises:--) ... ... . Rick

Some mufflers have louvers sticking into the flow path. I like the Walker 21471 which has perforated pipe only. DD uses this one in their systems, BTW.

I have a Jardine exhaust with Magnaflow muffler and a Magnaflow resonator. I went with a resonator (smaller muffler) because I didn't want to take a chance on getting any drone and wanted to keep the truck quiet. My truck pretty much sounds like stock.

Charles

I have both.......

On my 01 I have the Jardine set up. I also added the resonator to kill the drone. This one has the Magnaflow muffler. It sounds good. Louder but not too obnoxiuos.

On the 02 we put on Rip's setup with the allied muffler. Now from the lessons learned on my 01, I mounted the muffler forward, right after the first pipe section. Hence no drone. The allied muffler is definitely louder. It has a deeper throaty sound that I like.

Both are good systems and I would recommend either. If it's just the muffler your interested in go for the allied in my opinion.

fj40charles, where did you bought jardine system with resonator ? I always see only system with one muffler only. I em interesting to install 4", but wamt to keep noise down and I hate drone.

As I stated in my post above, try mounting the muffler after the first pipe section. Thats about where the resonator would go. I don't think it's as much a resonator as breaking up that long pipe run. It worked for me in the 02 with Rip's system.

Can you post some pictures of your set-up? Did you have to re-fab the hanger system to hold the muffler? On my 2002 there are no hangers holding the resonator, just hangs freely between the hanger mount on the transmission and the muffler. I would think some type of hanger system is needed to support the weight of the muffler. I have a 4" Bully Dog to install and the box the muffler came in has a wt of 23 lbs posted on the shipping label.
