First Pic of the new 2006

Are Cummins owners dog or cat people.

Bought a 99 Mustang GT convertable back in 99 when I needed a commuting car. Over 175,000 miles, Changed, 1 battery, oil/filter every 3k, KN airfilter clean every 10k, on the 4th set of tires and 3rd set of brakes. Still gets 24 hiway and 19 city like I drove it off the lot. Last ford truck I bought was in 81 and wont ever buy another ford truck again. Too much nickle/dime maintenance. Ford is laying off alot of people, that sucks about Ford IMHO-----RJ

My 2002 7. 3(company ) is at 250000kms(156000+miles is still going strong, definetly under powered ,trans hunts alot, mostly drive in the city with OD off, thats with about 5000-6000lbs of bread in the back of the cube. Still on original injectors, turbo, glowplugs and computer,my 97 7. 3 had more problems than this one, dumped it at 350000kms---- it was real tired. Bad things, front end every 30000 miles, trans is week(i'm on #3,4th is coming soon),starters, alternator, lots of leaks. Won't start below -15C,and uses about 4 quarts of oil between changes(7500)miles. Company said we will get new ones soon,i told the boss i'll keep this one if he thinks he is doing me a favor by getting me a 6. 0ltr    . Ford should of improved the 7. 3 ,more power, better trans etc and Fords loyals would have been happier---my 2 cents/opinion. :-laf :-laf :-laf. PS Been driving these things for 8+ years now ---is that enough reason as to why there is a Cummins in my garage :-laf :-laf :-laf

Someone apparently thought I was full of it on the $500 million warranty claims. Thanks for the PM and the opportunity to prove my point. Here's where I got the information:

http://www.autosafety.org/article.php?scid=37&did=1195

My favorite part of the article was after Ford bought back a couples 6. 0 truck and put them in a new 2006, this is what they had to say:

"After consulting with a lawyer, the Schraders took the deal. The couple left Michigan a few days later for a road trip West. But they are still angry with Ford because they had to spend a year trying to get their truck fixed.

And they will not cut the new truck any slack. If the new truck so much as sputters, James Schrader says he will pull into the nearest Dodge dealership and trade it for a Ram. "

I had an F250 Ford gasser and I had so many problems with it that I will never have another Ford again, gas or diesel. I am now on my second Dodge/Cummins and just love them. The 3rd generation Dodge is superb.

I acutally think its very funny, people around here think that god makes ford trucks, you see so many around here it gets irritating seeing them driving around, my neighbor still thinks the cummins isn't a real diesel and only ford makes real ones. I for one think ford sucks, the interiors are ugly and plain looking too much plastic, plus those towing mirrors are terrible looking.

If you want to see something even funnier go over to the diesel stop and see people that have had 2 trucks bought back by ford and they are still planning on what options they are going to get on the next ford truck they get

CC, That is the way it is here also. On this thread, I had mentioned one of my good friends who has a grading business. He has always had Fords, and his latest one was an 03' 6. 0 litre, which he has had nothing but problems with. Puter problems, oil leaks, bad injectors (several times), this is a completely stock F-350 utility bed. He was really fed up a few weeks ago when he fried another injector. I have let him drive my truck before & He told me, last week, "that's it, I'm getting a Dodge/Cummins. "

So I run into him the other day, & he tells me that he got a new truck... then he kinda sheepishly looks down at the ground and says he gave his 03' to his son, who works for him, as a work truck & he bought another 6. 0!

He says Ford promised him they had the bugs worked out & he is a Ford guy... oh well to each their own!

Why are people so gullible? Ford: the same company who brought you the Pinto, false horsepower ratings for Mustang Cobra's, the 6. 0, the "company saver" F-150, the "company saver" Mustang, the "company saver" 500, the "company saver" Fusion, and at least 3 different "turnaround" plans that were all going to save the company over the last 5 years. I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe one single word that comes out of that company.

I know many people who will buy Ford after Ford after Ford. They have nothing but problems with those Fords, but they will not buy Dodge because they are nothing but a rattle trap. My two Dodge's never rattled. Granted way back in the 70's and 80's, Dodge was rough and they rattled, but the had the best drive train. The gas engines, 318, 360 and the 440 were the best at that time. I think they also had a 390, can't remember.

i have owned 6 different dodge/chrysler products in my life. one car ,one single axle dump, and my 05 makes the fourth pickup. its to early to make a decision on the 05,but sofar i'am nearly as pleased with it as i'am my 02 ford. every last one of the other vehicle [but the car]had major drivetrain problems. wether it be engine, transmission, front end,or rear end probs. a decent mix of body related probs also, leaking windows, squeaks and rattles, and one had wireing issues. the closest i had to a pefect dodge truck was my 95 dually, but premature front end wear[just like the 93]and the small wireing fire pretty much was the iceing on the cake for me and dodge vehicles. now here i'am in a 05,i only hope it holds up as well as my ford and gm vehicles have. so far i have had the 05 for 6 months, the clutch slave cyl is leaking, and according to the recall notice i got over a month ago,i have to take it back for some new springs in the front end,i wonder if the frontend will be falling out of this one like it did on my 95 and the 93?

Maybe you are thinking of the Chrysler 383, I believe 390 was Ford.

I just finally got rid of a 99 windstar, that was a complete POS, bought it with only 36k miles, rack and pinion and PS pump was out within a couple months, transmission gone at 45k, 5grand in 2. 5 years just to keep that thing running, some idiot bought it knowing it needed $1300 in repairs. I will never own a ford again, all the mechanics we took it to laughed and said oh its a ford thats just what they do. after that experience its no wonder ford is hurting, people remember when they have to shell out thousands in repairs, I understand the windstar is built on a taurus frame and they suck too, people remember these things

Thats all AMR is running around here now. Know a few people who work for them, and compared to the 7. 3's they used to have they are very impressed with them. Lets keep in mind these are meat wagon drivers, not diesel heads, so take it FWIW.

We have an '03 6. 0 rescue and an '05 6. 0 Ambulance. Both have had significant mechanical trouble, though neither have failed during an emergent run... yet. Our old 6. 5L's still hold that award.

Funny time for this post..... A coworker has an 04 6. 0 and we are always ragging each other about the trucks. Thursday, he was coming back from lunch and his truck suddenly had no power, wouldn't go over 40 mph and he described it as feeling like he was suddently hooked up to and trying to tow a train car. He said it cleared up just before he got back to work. I thought it might be the fuel filter. Friday when he came in he said he had changed the fuel filter and it ran good until lunch when it did it again. Remember, it had already cleared up before changing the fuel filter. Now with the new filter in, the truck won't run over 40. It's not missing at all, just no power. It's like the injectors are only firing on a partial pulse. Of course, I'm not ragging him about this. This seems pretty serious.

I know Ford had a 390 because I had one. That was a lousy engine. I thought Dodge also made a 390 for trucks.

I have to chime in here, I have a 73 F150 with a 390 in it. The 390 is one of Fords better engines. I rebuilt it about 6yrs. ago ( 90,000 mi. on it) it still will spank any of the newer Chevys, Fords or Dodge gas engines comming up I70. It has a few upgrades and a NV4500 5 speed from a Dodge which gives it some legs for top speed.

My 79 Dodge has had a 360 in it and later a 440 also both ran very strong.

The Ford 6. 0 PSD is another story, a friend at work has one, a fully loaded 04 1 ton. It's been in and out of the shop 11 times since new for head gaskets, injectors, coolant leaks etc. He is truely brand loyal and says he will never own a Dodge, his tough luck!

Yesterday my wife and were going for a walk and a 6. 0 PSD passed by us it sounded like it was shooting Ducks, just running terrible.

My wife even picked up on it and asked what was wrong with that truck!

I think that this is going to bite all of us in the butt on way or another, with the layoffs of 30,000 plus workers and the effect on our economy.

I don't feel sorry for my friend with his attitude about Fords and his dislike for other brands, his head is in the sand.

yea whatta turd my grand dads 73 with a 390 he bought new only made it 400k miles before it was finally pulled out and changed for a collapsed lifter, thing was never apart before that

My brother-in-law and I special order 71 Fords, F250 Camper Special with a 390 and 4 speed standard trannys, Sport Customs. We paid $3,972. 00 for them. Mine went 104K and his went 121K when we had the engines rebuilt. I installed a set of Hooker headers and two long glas-pack exhausts on mine and never had burnt valves. My brother-in-law never did the headers and started having to replace burnt valves at 50K. My rebuilt engine went another 21K miles when it cracked a cylinder wall. I had a 390 factory rebuilt engine installed. That last about 30K miles with many problems, like oil pump and head gaskets. I had many problems with every part of that worthless truck that I literally gave it away. My brother-in-law's lasted a little longer and he finally got rid of it and bought two more Fords since and has had many problems with them, but his a die hard Ford man. This is why I'll never have another Ford again.

for the last couple hundred thousand miles pap's truck had blackjack headers and cherry bombs that dumped just behind the cab, he somehow had a uncanny ability to extract absurd amounts of miles out of fords, his crappy 6 cylinder fairmont had almost 600k when he sold it still running, when he died last year the truck became mine i am planning on building it for mom to have, was going to put a 5. 9 cummins in it for me but i found my truck so i haven't decided what it'll get now, may get another gasser but i just thought about a 4bt for fuel mileage may be neat
