we own a 03 1 ton 4x4 crew cab with 3. 73, auto, and I can't get better than 15 mpg on the highway I get 12 mpg in town towing or not, the truck has just under 20k miles. I get over 20mpg in my ols 91. 5 4x4. The new truck gets babied to try and improve the fuel mpg, any ideas?
My 03, equipped like yours, gets a bit better than 15 overall. My 94 got 20 overall. But the 03 has twice the hp, two more doors, 4WD, and an automatic transmission. Considering all that, I think it's doing quite well!
I agree that 15mpg seems low... but doubt if the dealer is going to address the problem. You don't have the best combo for mileage (AT & 4x4) but you might look at some things like dirty MAP/IAT sensor, tire pressure, dirty fuel filter, etc. .
I would guess that a well tuned rig, like yours, should get closer to 20mpg. The dealer might have a re-flash or something that he's willing to do... it's just hard to imagine them spending time on a mileage issue. . unless it's sever. JMO!
Yeah I've had it in for the transmission problems not upshifting into od until 70mph, and the tech reprogramed the truck and transmission, that was fixed and the thing ran a whole lot better, in every gear. The fuel filter was recently changed and no mileage gains, what do I do about dirty sensors?
