Another Getrag bites the dust....

Well going through town yesterday to get Famlly Pictures taken at the photo place. Im just going easy through traffic and start to pull a small hill going about 20 in 3rd when it decided to make a herindose grinding noise right as a crested the hill. I Quikly shifted into 4th and the noise went away. Wondering what it could be i got to the next light and as i started again i easely sliped it into 3rd there was that nasty noise again. Into the parking lot at Photo shop i put it into 2nd and idled in i could here a faint click..... click... ..... click in in 2 second intervals. Well the rest of the way home i was skip shifting from 2nd to 4rth had no problem doin so (loved all the smoke He He). I would hate to rebuld the Getrag knowing it may not last. this brings me to another ??? i have looked all over for the Best Price on a NV4500 trans and Kit. Standard Transmission and gear seem to be the best priced at $2150. NV4500 with 5th gear update and all nessisary parts for the the swap and will take my Getrag for a core. Has anyone delt with S. T. &G. also can you use the existing Flywheel clutch and pressure plate. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.....

Over the summer I had s t&g rebuild my getrag. They are really good peole up there in Fort worth. When i got my getrag back I wasnt happy with it. It had a rattle sound in 4th gear and I drove the truck up to their shop where they drove/listened to the transmission. Couple hours later I was heading home with one of their fully rebuilt getrag's sitting in the bed of my truck since they couldnt figure out what it was. Bin working fine since then.

Talk to Dan at Quad 4x4. I think his NV4500HD goes for about $3000 or so. I guess a lot of people around here have dealt with him, and they all recommend him.

Antrim93, although I havent dealt with Quad4x4, I have researched them a little. With them, you don't have to send your getrag to them for a core. That will save big on shipping and you can sell your getrag and try to get some of the $3K back from the 4500HD. I think its free shipping too, but don't quote me on that. Check their website, its very imformative. Bill

Thanks guys. Im takeing the trans out Sat. night. Monday ill get into the Box and see whats up i may just stick with the Getrag and not run the truck as hard. I dont have the $$ or the time to save it for the NV4500 swap. So by This Tuesday it will be back together and running wile it out ill probly just do a total trans rebuild... ... ... ...

NV 4500hd

My brother just put a nv 4500 in his truck. We got the conversion kit from Dan at Quad 4x4. Everything seems ok so far. The kit is $650 and we put in a new clutch for $375. We found a used nv 4500 for $500 (actually we traded a side of beef for it) It needed new fifth gear and some bearings but way cheaper than new. Dan sends out a excellent video to explain the swap so if you have access to tools and a shop and are handy you could do it yourself. We also got a borgeson joint as well as two transmision filter kits from dan. You can rebuild your getrag but if the case is shot forget about it get a rebuilt getrag or nv4500. I'd give dan a call he'll help you out.

You might try Advance Adapters. I got my kit from them a couple months ago. It was $23??. 00. Included a new trans, bh, shifter, t-case shifter bracket, and hardware. Pretty complete kit. Good customer service.
