We just installed a new $8k Erskine snowblower on a tractor that we sold. We have been selling erskine stuff for years. It has been a wile since we sold a blower. Erskines at one time were the best front mount snowblower sold, what we called a commercial grade blower. We have now learned they have been bought out by a investment group. These things are jc whitney junk not near wroth what they cost. It's a shame, I spoke to there engineers and told them I do believe they would be better off having this made in china. It is sad to say I have seen better equipment from china. Just one shops opinion.

P.S. Bigtex trailers & PJ trailers was bought by an investment group. bigtex has become such a hassle we hardly sell them anymore. PJ's paint with the primer option has actually gotten munch better.

This is a good example why I try to buy from independently owned shops. Not always, but I give them the first shot at it.

I am with you, DGamelin. I have been in business a long, long time through a few different industries. I do things the old-school way, treat people like I'd like to be treated, and do my level best to choose manufacturers who I trust to build it right. Then one day, a product that has worked for years turns to crap or problems arise where there were none before. I was definitely born too late, and don't fit in with this new age way of hosing people.

They play on the name value and make their $ before people realize the stuff has turned to junk.
My Mother is 85, and bought one of those cheezy lantern things they are advertising on TV. When I commented on it she said, "Well, it is made by Bell and Howell".
Had to explain to her that this wasn't the same company that made the Super 8 projector we have in her attic...she struggled with the whole idea.

Bell & Howell had a large plant in Phillipsburg that made mailing machines. It then moved to Allentown, PA. I knew a lot of folks who worked for B&H. And, yes, I see those commercials and laugh.

Same with BFG At tires. they used to be the best you could get and get an easy 60K out of them. now you'd be lucky to get 25K out of a set. sad to see the way of things. Craftsman, was my favorite tool, not anymore, i've broken 3 1/2" drive ratches last year alone. i told the guy at the counter i'll never buy another craftsman product again, and that he should look into a different job.
it all comes down to greed, The love of money, and the stock market, the once great companies care more about the stock holders than the final product. so you see the great iconic companies dwindling away.

Craftsman has been bought by Black and Decker / Dewalt. They are, supposedly, building a new plant in the midwest to bring all Craftsman tools back up to the standard they once were. I hope it is true.
