Geez, ya'all weren't kidding about the 'stock oil filter may be overtorqued and difficult to remove' part of the oil changes.....
Just completed the first change and expanded the tool bin to include a rachet strap wrench and 1/2" extension. I can't believe how many places I had to call to find one in this town! Thanks to Napa this time for saving my day... .
Anyway, somewhere on the Ram oil change page there is a comment about Cummins fixing this problem. Well, I got my truck in December and it sure was not fixed. Maybe affixed, or tachwelded, or "one with the vehicle" was more like it. I just had to step back and laugh at the condition of the original filter once it was off (all mushed, and striped (from the vise-grip oil wrench that did nothing but groove thru the paint), and dented. And I'm here to tell ya that those nifty Boa-constrictor strap wrenches that you see on TV and offered by the tool places for oil filter changes, DO NOT work with these oil filters (maybe after the first replacement, but not stock from factory).
Anyway, it's done and over, now for another 5kOo.
