Another Jeep to Cummins

Hello guys I just registered, I needed more information than I was able to find and this seems to be the happening place for Cummins talk.



I have two Jeep trucks, 132" wheelbase, Dana 44HD 8 lug front axles and Dana 60-2 FF rears. I am planning on converting these things to run 4bt's but the trucks are not going to be identical. One of these trucks will be a DD and semi-offroad toy with light towing while the other will be mainly a DD truck. Both "ideal" configurations are below, any comments or hints... ?



Truck One, '72 J4000: 4bt, 47RH, NP205, and a limited slip front differential and a T-locker or Ox in the rear, 2-4" lift with 32" tires



Truck Two, '74 J-20: 4bt, NV4500, NP203, NP205 Doubler, Dana-60 front axle, T-lockers in both diffs, 6-8" lift, running 35" tires.



For axle ratio I am thinking 3. 54's, with this gearing it should be able to cruise on the freeway without causing a hazard. For Truck two I haven't decided which side the differential should be on, drivers or passenger side drop. I am collecting components now but I have a 2 year time span to get them both up and running, that includes looking good... Currently I have just the engines and am researching collecting other components.

You have two great trucks for repower.

Don't be afarid to use the "search" function, it works good and theres a ton of information out there.

As for which side diff to use, I'd vote for a left (driver's) side front diff. The exhaust on the 4B is on the right side, and can go straight back if you use the left side drop transfer case and front diff. If you use the right side drop you have to snake the exhaust over to the left side before going back. My wife's Willys is sitting on a 1980 J20 frame with left side drop and my Scout is still right side drop, what a pia for the exhaust

Another plus for a left side axle is that you can get a high pinion model from a Ford. This will decrease your driveshaft operating angles. Of course, this would only be of use if you do not currently have an axle lined up for the job.
