Received the Jig kit today and went right to work on the truck.
After reading all the instructions that came with it, decided to use illfem's air method. This worked great. The chips always flew out of the jig.
Put some cheater bars on the supplied fan wrenches and the fan nut came instantly loose. I also left the fan in the housing, secured it with a bungie cord.
Found it was easier to remove the overflow jug as it would not let the back end of drill be aligned with jig. After fiddling a few minutes figured out that the jug had a nipple on it in the middle preventing it from coming up. Easy after i realized that.
When I reassembled, I also installed a new Gatorback belt. This belt is great, the shut down noises went away. Keeping the old belt for emergencies. .
Just want to thank all involved in this kit, it is absolutely a great deal. Just being able to use the kit is worth the subscription fee.
The total job took less than hour.
One thought I want to share with everyone,,...
I purchased this truck used and as I was doing the job, I wondered if the fix had already been done. No way of knowing this unless you knew the previous owner. I was hoping when I removed the fan bracket, I would see a screw in the position where the fix is done. Of course there was'nt one, but then what if some one did the tab fix, how would you know... .
What I am getting at is this... Should we somehow mark the truck in the engine compartment, letting a possible future owner know if the fix was done. Maybe a little sticker... .
What I did was take my engraver and put a little engraved note that the pin was killed on this date. On the cowl in front of the radiator... . A sticker would be a lot better... Maybe even a small TDR sticker... . Would put some long term advertising for TDR on those trucks that had the KDP fixed...
