Well this is sure getting old. I just had the dealer put a new lift pump on a few days ago. Now this one has about 700 miles, and its on its way out. The first day after recieving the truck it was pushing 15 psi at the inj pump. 2 days later i checked and it was 12. 5 at idle. I was heading up north this weekend and and it started to fall on its face and has a dead spot in the throttle at 50-60 mph. So I pulled her over and threw the guage on and it said 0, but the truck still was running. How in the heck does it run if there is no fuel pressure? I can hear the pump run if i flick the throttle but no prussure. Do you guys know what the heck is going on, Any info would be great. Kevin

Your vp44 is sucking the fuel in. Which will eventually kill it.

If you have another gauge check it again otherwise its time for another lp.

If you lose prime and the lp is bad then the truck will not run.

Do get a fuel pressure gauge and know what is going on all the time with the lift pump . Checking it once and a while is not to good of idea as they can and do go out any time , Also they are known to run but not pump . If pump makes noise that is not proof its pumping as the injector pump will suck the fuel from the tank but will not in most case have the flow needed to cool and lube the pump , Motor only gets about 25% to injectors rest returns to tank after cooling and lube of pump through the check valve and return line. So save ,beg ,barrow etc and get a set up electrical or mechanical soon as possible . LOL Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KYOo.

I've had four lift pumps, a starter, and a transmission fail, (transmission $3500) within 95K miles. I presently have both mechanical and electrical fuel pressure gauges, which I now feel are only used to worry me, and then tell me, that my truck is about to drain my bank account $$! At present, my "'Black Hole' which I throw money in," sits in my driveway with my 'high pressure' fuel injection pump now failing. However, because 'I'm my own warranty station' due to the extras I've installed, (only to get it to run as it should of from the stinking factory,) I have to pay the $4000 repair dealer price for it to get a 'rebuilt' injection pump installed, plus towing.

Well, I refuse to pay any more out of pocket my truck! Plus, since my employer reimburses my payment each month, because I use it for work almost exclusively, it is going to just sit in my driveway, until I decide its fate, while I drive my ever faithful '88 Bronco II for work!

RobbyRam - Whatever you do don't let the dealer gouge you $4000 for an injector pump. A good shop will do it for around half that. As far as the injector pump going, the one on my 1st gen went at about 110,000 miles, stuff happens, of course I did the removal and install myself and the rebuild was $500 not $1500 like the VP's are. If you are really that dis-satisfied with the truck get rid of it, someone around these boards might buy it as is. Then you could go get a proven Ford 6. 0 and be happier. As a note to warranty and modifying your truck, I was at a dealer recently getting parts and there was a sign there saying that starting with the 2003 model year the dealer has to stamp your maintenance service book when scheduled maintenance was done otherwise your warranty would be void. In other words, pay us $100 to do your oil change or we'll void your warranty. I am sorry sir but your track bar wore out because you did your own oil change and we are not going to cover it... ... Good luck with whatever you do, I know how you feel, my 92 Dakota that I owned for 1 year 1 month and 1 day was in the shop 48 days 12 different times before they bought it back, now they probably would have voided my warranty because it had a tonneau cover on it.

Turbo Tim,

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck, in fact I just spent over $250 getting a wood trim dash kit and a dash cover from Geno's even after three years of ownership. But now, it really puts a huge 'knot' in my stomach when I wonder if it's going to start up or not while vacationing in the woods towing my trailer.

I just parked it in the campground on Thursday and was even afraid to start it for four days in case it had had it's 'last' start Thursday! (And I thought about it the whole time which ruined my relaxation) But on Sunday, since it was cold, it started right up. Go figure! Even now, when it's cold, it starts right up, but when hot, it won't start for several seconds.

Then, on the way home, I was even afraid to shut it off 'till I got almost all the way home after driving two hours. I even left it idling, with the A/C on, when when we stopped part way to eat at a restuarant on the way home Sunday. And then, when I finally shifted into 'drive' to go the rest of the way home, the stinking truck 'died!' Then, it refused to start for over a minute or two of cranking!(This is definitley not normal) I thought the fuel injection pump had finally died! But it finally started with me mashing the go pedal!

This piece of %#$... , sorry... , I mean this lovely truck, is now staying at home because I am tired of paying tow bills. Either I will eventually fix it here myself, or it will just sit, as long as my employer continues to pay for my payment!
