I am POed at my truck also. Dodge is releasing a new design pump which will go in the tank. They will be installing it Tuesday. I have had a bunch of problems with my truck also. Motor is great and oil reports confirm it. I'll post when I know more.

diesel Dog,

I called 2 dealers in my area & they claim they haven't heard of the new design pump. Can you get part #'s, etc. I like the sound of this.

As you have discoverd the HP4061 is not a good replacment for the stock pump. It is basically the same pump which we all know is not the "best" pump for the job. This pump has been run by quite a few people and it fails just as often as the stocker.

As for moving the pump back by the tank, yes it helps a bit but its still not the solution. It does make changing the pump out easier but they stil do not last forever.

Looking at your signature I see you have an inbed tank. Have you ever considered replumbing your truck so that the lift pump is fed from the in bed tank? I know its not 100% legal, but it would not be hard to make it look legal. You could then use the 4061 to transfer fuel from the stock tank to the inbed tank so you would not loose capacity.

If you want to get the problem solved I belive that the RASP pump is the solution. Its expensive, but so are multiple lift pumps and the associated cost (like being broken down on the side of the road).

The part # is 5175538-AA Pressure on my electric Westech guage is no 7-8 and down to 3 at WOT It was 15 and may be 10 at WOT before. :--) It runs good.

I just had the dealer change my LP and I got the same in tank LP DieselDOG did. I also noticed that the FP is 7-8psi at idle and 3 at WOT.

I replaced 2 lp in 2 mos. The next time it died I realized that fuel gauge was always right around 3/8 . Dealer said cracked pickup hose is VERY common "in these older trucks". I now have 3 good lift pumps(yay for me). When the lp was put in your tank was the one on the engine removed? The more I think about this the more I like it(in tank + stock)

Responding to threads above of suggestions of FASS RASP AirDog, I just got the RASP because:

The pressure bypass back to the tank vent line is NOT in series with the pump and you plumb it in between the ff to VP line, actual pressure to the VP.

The pump can put out way more VOLUME than the VP can handle so pleanty of fuel available.

Mechanical with lp backup IF the mechanical ever faults you can still get home.

Starts off the OEM lp at correct pressure (7psi), then as rpm comes up the mechanical pump pressure turns OFF the lp. LP only runs about 15 seconds per engine start, but you know it is still viable.

Just some thoughts

can anyone tell me what the symptoms are that may lead you to believe your pump is going bad? I have a 2001 2500 and in the last 2 weeks I have replaced the ff and the low pressure fuel pump, this being because I thought that I was having trans problems because I thought that the trans was slipping. The guy in the trans shop put it on the dio machine and pulled codes for the fuel system. I replaced the parts and still have what feels like the transmission isn't shifting but the engine rpms don't go up it just stays in that gear until I get off the pedal then it shifts fine, and it isn't happening on a regular basis,????? anyone ever have similar problems??

According to Kotby Motors in Laramie, there is no TSB out yet on the in tank retro fit kit. But if the parts people look up the original lift pump number they'll be referred to the '03 & up lift pump & a conversion kit to make it fit our trucks. Whether or not you get the new pump & retro fit kit or a new original style lift pump all depends on availability of the original style lift pump. I didn't look into the cost, but will.

I used the part number posted by Diesel Dog & actually found a dealer South of me that had 4 kits. The parts guy told me it had a pump, hose & some clamps for $380. 00.

This may not be a good fix, supposedly the fuel lines on the 05 Dodges (what the kit is modelled after) were only 1/4". Haven't had time to check 3rd Gen forums for this.

The kit that I saw today for the 2nd gen 24v does not have any fuel lines just the in tank pump the piece that goes were the LP used to be and some wiring harnesses and few misc. parts. This is the first one our dealership has seen.

Any chance of getting some pics?
