nasa vs diesel soot

Anyone know what compression per cylinder should be

Let's see, we could at any time take a direct hit from a large enough foreign body hurtling through space to knock us out of orbit, snuff us out, etc. , etc. Or we can keep multiplying (just the lesser enlightened of course) until we eat everything is sight and contaminate the last drop of fresh water. In the end, will it be just evolution, natural selection or god's will. More over, if no one is left will it matter?

It's convenient to attack -

since none of these folks are affected and it feels so good to be for this argument. I'm sure that soot can be a problem - BUT STOP the presses - This world evolved with soot many times more than we have now, and we've made it very nicely - thank you. Look at what happened when the world had it's period of massive volcanoes... . AND talk about soot - compare Fires - all types. The percentage that can be attributed by Diesel engines I'll bet is extremely small and may not even represent a 10th of one percent! BUT - that won't stop anybody -

In my travels. Ive noticed that the open minded save the world people are the most closed minded of all.

I got a chuckle. A lot of my beliefs start with my bible background. God says fur is cool. So I figure he knows better than me. Im down with fur. Im at the local fur rondeveus while some anti fur folks are heckling the auctioneer. Well after a bit the auctioneer stops in the middle of an auction and stairs one of these hecklers down. The guy has a sign and is telling everyone how they are baby killers. Well the auctioneer says WTF are your shoes made out of genius. Those hecklers shut their pie holes and left. Its selective logic that is killing me. Dont wear fur while they are choking down a burger. Then there is the vegans. Ive ate vegaterian and macrobiotic for health concerns. There are some real loonies out there. I dislike extremists and follow buddhas teaching that zen is to found somewhere in the middle. There is a little truth to everything the trick is to not take it too far.

Up here we have the wolf kills. While repulsive to any one of us. It is a necessary evil. No one likes the idea but it is productive. If we woulda left well enough alone nature woulda figured it out on its own. The dealio is that these things are gonna die slow horrible deaths by starvation but thats ok. Man shouldnt meddle but we cant help ourselves. Good intentions pave the road to hell. Aggressive fire prevention caused more problems than it saved.

We have this beetle infestation killing our evergreens. Everyone was freaked. My thoughts were if nature is killing itself then it must be natural. Kill it all. Burn it to the ground and start over. Full circle.

Humans are parasites on mother earths back. If we cant figure out a symbiotic balance, then we all die.

"anyone ever watch a shuttle lift off"

Granted, there is a lot of pollution from the solid rocket boosters and main engines, the 20-30,000 gallons of water that is injected into the exhaust stream during a period of about 8-9 seconds (to cool and dissipate noise) sure make the "volume" of pollution (the big "white" cloud) look larger than is actually the exhaust produced.

Not choosing sides... just was impressed the first time I was told of this.

The shuttle IS environmentally friendly and good for tourism too. Its solid rocket motors burn aluminate, which reacts with the calcium in the waters around the cape and the Bahamas to produce Calcium Aluminate, which is brilliant Blue, which reflects sunlight and makes the Carribean waters brilliant blue.

And I have solid scientific undisputeable evidence of this fact... .

All pictures taken before NASA began launches in Florida show the ocean and the Bahamas were in Black and White 40 years ago, now all the pictures show it's bright blue waters... ... .

Therefore... ... blah blah blah... ... ...

Or could you have been told that so you could keep one of these :D on your face?

I wonder if that air craft they haul that shuttle around with does any polluting not counting all the rest of the air planes and jets they use ??????

Which in part makes me skeptical of the NASA claim that "The biggest source of soot in developed countries is diesel fuel".

Well, in NASAs defense (and aviation in general), all modern jet engines use "smokeless combustors", which significantly cut down on their soot production.

According to the Diesel Technology Forum:

"-Particulate emissions from diesel engines have dropped by 37 percent in the 10-year period from 1990-2000. (Source: USEPA Air Quality Trends Report, Appendix A; May 2003).

-Currently in the US emissions of particles from diesel engines of all types - light-duty cars and trucks, heavy-duty commercial trucks and buses, off-road, marine and rail account for less than 3 percent of the total particulate inventory.

-Diesel emissions rank 5th in levels of particulate emissions behind Fossil fuel combustion for electric utility, industrial and commercial uses, and waste recycling (excluding natural sources of particles). "

This reinforces my skepticism of the NASA claim that "The biggest source of soot in developed countries is diesel fuel".

tickled

Dieselman,,You tickled my funny bone!!!:D :D :D That black & white thing was good. Hehehe!!!

I'll bet that one of the oil wells that Suddam torched made more soot than a years worth of driving in the US. And how many did he torch? And look at all the bleeding hearts that do not want him exicuted!!
