Walker 21468!

Hey KMC!:)

Both the Walker & Dynomax are great mufflers for our trucks! It's really personal preference/cost/availability sort of choice. The designs are similar w/ both being a compact, straight-thru perferated core muffler 3" inlet/outlet.

I know that JRE/Joe Donnelly and others highly recommended the Walker... so I had Ted Install mine while I was up for a inj. pump. Both of the First Gen's in the family have this muffler!

KEENO:D

KEENO,

the truck had a 3" perforated/straight through "TURBO SHOP" muffler on it that appears to be stainless... it was promptly replaced with a length of straight pipe, so I've got nothing BUT music...

and swiss cheesing the air box makes the thing sound like a semi when the windows are up!

Well Forrest:

Did you get the last issue of TDR magazine? There was a very large write up on "Operation Tugboat". It was a project vehicle for Four Wheeler magazine. I have a reprint of the magazine articles and remember reading that they took their truck to the Turbo Shop for an exhaust and intercooler. So, if it's the Turbo Shop's then it's more than likely 3" mandrel bent. So, to answer the question, your exhaust is a performance one and has already been replaced.

I got my exhaust replaced locally. It was aluminized 3", downpipe back was $85. It WAS NOT mandrel bent but didn't look too aweful bad and I also have a straight pipe. I think it's helped it.

Hope this helps,

John

KMC,

Great truck! Don't worry, it will be broken in one of these days - only 55K??? Thats incredible!:)

Yes, the service manual will help with the timing question but there are a couple of special tools you will need such as a dial indicator setup that goes into the pump. Also make sure you check top dead center and the timing pin. Mine was off about 2. 5 degrees.

Welcome

Muffler or not?

Hey Forrest!

Mufflers are like turbo housings... . Everyone has their own personal preferences!

I've run my tuck w/o a muffler for a few days... With a performance exhaust & NO muffler the resonance was unbearable! I put the Walker on and have been happy ever since!:D

KEENO:)

yup, mufflers are definately personal preference...

it cracks me up when I see guys spending real effort nit-picking which mufflers are the "best"

on a turbo application, you want a straight through design... (no flowmasters, OEM, etc. ) once you meet that design criteria, it's all personal preference...

on a non turbo application? if it's a well known aftermarket/performance brand, you're just splittin' hairs!
