Sunset on Hilton Head beach

A stiff breeze from the NE made the sand run like smoke along the shore. Not the same as a snowscape but kind of cool anyway.

Different kind of beach than what im used to in So Cal. we had soft sand most of the beach. Looks nice but no surf or girl???? whats up with that

Hey BIG! Very Nice! How much snow out there? Temperature? We picked up about 40" of snow since yesterday! GregH

It really depends on where your at in the valley. Some places its belly deep on a horse. ( Ill show pics. ) And others its just inches deep. This place is kind of weird the Mission Mountains on one side of the valley GET HAMMERD and the Lolo Nat Forest gets none at times they are not that far apart. Then you get The BOB you BETTER HAVE YOUR I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER together when you go in there. Deep and avalanches are a real threat to your existence. Im not really adept at looking at snow and seeing it as a death sentence avalanche but im learning from the in-laws they have been here all their life so they are still above ground mite want to listen to them :-laf We went riding today with our neighbors and you can see the difference in depth. It feels GREAT to get back in the saddle but im pretty sore. No pain no gain right? As far as temp the home weather station that we have said at nite 0 or below last 3 nites and days could be mid 20's to 40's it varies wildly all day. The Elk feeding is because of our neighbor's they love wildlife and help them out all they can. Strange they dont seem to mind us hunting" Not use to that in Calif it's ya or Na no in between 2ond pic is out of our back yard into the mountains we use it alot to ride.

40 inches WOW thats alot we have snow just about everyday but not that much. But your another 5 K feet above us we are about 4K feet.

Different view. These are on a Ranch about 5 miles from the house. The same herd that hangs around here. You are looking East. Denver is below those clouds past the Mountains. GregH

Thanks BIG! that's my wallpaper on my work computer now. I just look at it and work isn't that bad:D

Glad to see you like it. If I would have known that retirement was this fun I would have done it sooner :-laf Some how getting up early now is different than before I THINK TRAFFIC HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.

BIG, Yep, Far different weather patterns, also!

We havent spent a month below zero for 30 years. We do get the sub zero spells but they last less than a week. We do need some of that to kill the Mountain Pine Beetles!

We are moving into our Snow season. Most of the snow we get falls in the next 3 months. We could get a huge amount or an inadequate snow pack. It depends! The worst(driest) year was 2002. The following 17-19 March(2003) we got 86. 5" of "wet cement" from one storm! We were snowed in! I had the driveway cleared out, but the county did not run a dozer down the road for 5 days!!!

A few years back, we got 2' every weekend for 9 weeks straight! That was an ODD year!

Your Pictures are OUTSTANDING, as usual!

GregH

Our snow for the most part is SUPER DRY Before we moved up here I think it was Shadrach that live in Canada just North of us said it was a dry snow and not like your cement. LOL first time I have heard that. But ours is just like confection sugar

BIG, The Season determines the consistency of the snow. In mid Winter we get the powder snow. The ski areas call it "champagne powder". As we approach Spring and it warms up or a decrease in altitude will change the Snow. Right now it is still powder. By Early march, it will be wet cement:-laf! The snow pack is where we get our water. Our area is considered "semi-desert". GregH

Very low bottom profile makes for very small surf most of the time even in a storm. And since the wind is parallel to the shore, no extra kick to the waves. Too cold and windy for the bikinis..... darn.

As a kid growing up my Dad was stationed in the Navy at Norfolk NAS Virginia so I knew about the no surf DUDE:-laf But one thing the east coast has that I miss dearly is the Blue Crab my Dad and I use to spend hours and hours (can you call it fishing ) for crab take them home pressure cook them man that was some good eating. My Mom was from NC spent many Boy Scout camp outs on Cape Hatteras even went thru a small hurricane camped out there (some scout leader) and the Smokey Mountains are killer even seen the REAL Smokey Bear there . Never spent much time in SC is it that much different than NC??? the one thing I dont miss is the humidity I just cant do that anymore VERY PRETTY country.
