Are there manuals available for the NV-4500 trans? meaning maint. manuals and overhaul manuals from anybody???? If so where and how much..... As well is there anybody out there who has rebuilt there own? Good-bad -ugly ect. From what I have seen its not that complicated of a gear box to deal with made me curiose. Or is it just as easy to go find a unit out of a dead Chev and put the ST 5th gear main shaft and gear nut kit in and press on with life????

Thanks,

Repair manual

Order all Data on c-d havent checked late ly (plug into it on the net) but about a year ago it could be had for 20. 00 encluded up-dates as i recalled. Fits your year<just tell them what it is.

D/c manual will set you back $100.

don't know what motor's may offer FOR "FREE" at local library>>>>.

You won't see an add in the Mag,you know paying ad space!!(ALL-DATA)

Tools needed,a good (strong) pair of snap ring pliers,3/4 torque wrench, or 1/2 to 3/4 drive adaptor, miller tool 6743---IF you dont have the tool or wrench the book tells you to uae a blunt chisle and hammer to drive the 5'th gear nut to approx 300 lb torque!!!

And if you order the ST shaft and kit you will need the press tool from miller to install 5 th gear OR--- a leanth of grade 8 threaded rod ,screws into the end of the main shaft, and a piece of thin wall'ed 2 1/2" steel tubing to make your own press,

But if you decied to use my fix, reuse 5 th gear and oem shaft, the snap ring plier's & pipe/rod are not needed.

starting fluid-small bottle of red loctite, would suggest the miller tool, borrow or rent the wrench,2-1/2 lb hammer large center punch (all of which is under $100. )

Chevy transmission has a balancer on the out put shaft(not on front or eng) tail housing most likely different. so why not just fix yours???

IF you use my posted fix,AND modify the flywheel with SB's pilot bearing ,your old parts----EXCEPT -- the nut (you want the superceeded-pre split nut) I KNOW you will not re visit this area of your veh. .
