You are correct on that... ... .

A friend of mine bought a beautiful 95 12 valve with only 55K on the clock from a co-worker.

I had been telling the previous owner about the KDP and he just laughed it off, telling me the truck only had 55k.

Less than 3k miles after the new owner bought the truck, oil started leaking from the busted case after the pin dropped out.

I don't recall how much the parts cost, but it was a lot more than $4 or $5 for the tab

THE FORD GUY Oo. Oo. Oo.

yeah, if you have the labor done at a shop, it's a $1500-2000 deal depending on what lets go...

the tab is $2 at Cummins. the bolt is like $. 80 I believe.

hmm... :D

Gee whiz, son, seems you forgotten all the pain and suffering she went through bringing you into this world and raising you up proper like. :{ Nows the time to hep her out AND gain some experience for when your 12v arrives. :D :-laf Simple enough job for someone contemplating a conversion/install.

Let's do a poll: How many would help their mom out? :D

well ive been trying to get her to let me tear into the truck and fix it but she wont let me maybe if it holds on for a few more months she will let me at it when i get back from wyotech.

lol i think you mis understand me when i say i will be getting a 12v its not a conversion its gonna be a 12v dodge not a conversion

I have done 3 tabs so far and all three had moved slightly somewhere between 1/32 and 1/8 probably. Not much I know but if they were bottomed at the factory it shows they were on the move. My uncle had his '98 done not long ago and it was just about to fall out!! That made him a believer real quick. I hadn't fully gotten through to him but when a friend at another shop showed him a broken gear case he figured he better get it check out.

Dads 96 got bit by the KDP

My Dad has a 96 with 300K on it and the pin finally fell. I warned him, but he said none of the company trucks have ever had the problem. He has over 30 Dodges w/12V still working hard pulling fertilizer ect every day. They are all automatics and several have over 300K with no problems. He still swears the cummins is the best thing to every happen to a truck. His truck only needs the center spacer, the cover snad everything else is good. He was pretty lucky.

Is it a correct assumption to think that all KDP's are seated all the way in from the factory?

Merrick

I don't think so. The KDP in my '95 was protruding about 1/16" or so. Could not drive it in. I did another '95 and it was the same way.
