The bosses truck started the studder thang, I checked the codes and po216 was there, so we removed the d-box took it to the dealer, we only had one problem, we forgot to take off the j-hook,soooo on the way there we had set a over boost code:eek: so he cleared the codes removed the j-hook and said that was the problem, that over boost was causeing the po216 code to show and cause the ecm to go into limp mode. we drove it hard back to the shop no codes set, hooked up the d-box still no code, put back on the j-hook instant code po216:confused: This truck has had the d-box on it and the j-hook for three years. Im wondering if the inhansments are causeing the vp to show up earley signs of a crash. So right now he is running around stock no codes no studder. Ant ideas? TIA Harv

O216 is usually caused by a lack of fuel

Pressure to the VP44 causing a timing problem with the injection pump. Check all the fuel delivery system: fuel filters voltage and ground to fuel pump, and the fuel pump itself. Last but not least air leaks. It could be theVP44 but more than likely its a delivery problem. Merv

Ok Merv, Thanks for the reply I ll check & make sure that all is well with the fuel delivery system, the fuel pressure guage never goes below 10 psi, wot. and the guage is hooked up at the vp44.

Darn, I hate reading this P0216 stuff!

Just borrowed a reader from a friend and see I've got a p0216 code.

I've got around 140k on my truck and the vp44 was replaced once under warranty. (think it was around 80 or 90k when my truck died). Since it was replaced I've had a fuel pressure gauge and have monitored my fuel pressure and replaced a liftpump when pressures started to get eratic.

My truck is running great, except for a intermitent problem of loss of power when I leave work and try merging into some uphill traffic. Quite frequently now when I try this merge the engine lacks power for a couple blocks then kicks back into normal mode. The only time this happens is when I've left work after the truck has been parked for 9 hours. Never have the problem in the morning when I drive to work.

Really hate thinking the vp44 is going bad when I've done everything to keep it healthy.

Dont forget air in the lines may not show

On the pressure gauge. Air or fuel it looks the same on a pressure gauge. Look for problems on the suction line on the quick couplers orings.

Here's what it boils down too! When the box is installed it advances the timing, the vp has a problem begining so that must be why the box makes it show up. running stock you can't make it set the code, this truck has been running for three years with the j-hook,d-box, & 275 rv's now it wants to start setting this p 0216 code, the vp has to be failing but the dealer won't do anything until he can set the code with it stock. probley somtime after 100k.

Im gona bring this back to the top one more time, to let you'll know the problem is fixed, installed a new vp 44 and now all is back to normal, no more codes reinstalled all the toy's and the truck runs like it has for the last few years, all i had to do was put on the toys set the code take off the toys take it to the dealer let him clear the code and say it won't set it try it again, did that a few times and then finaly have aa pump witch was going bad.
