I went to my dealer to pick my truck up today after having some front end work done on it. They had a few of the new 1500s in the showroom so I went and checked them out.

The back seat is MUCH BETTER but its no crew cab. I am 6'3 225 and I sat in the front and got everything adjusted then hopped in the back and my knees were still against the seat but not by much at all. Shorter people in the back or kids would be fine. Most of my friends are about my size so it would be a little cramped. The Trucks look ALOT better in person than they do in pics. And for you reg cab guys there is a helluvalot of room behind the rear seat to store stuff, alot of room almost half a quad cab amount of room.

Spoke with a salesman for awhile about the 2500 and up trucks. He said as far as he knows the New style 2500 will arrive in January as an 02 model. And also its supposed to have more room in the back than the 1500. He said they really wouldn't know until one showed up what it would be like. He did go on to say the Diesel was to remain unchanged and all the other motors, including the V-10 will be new.

This is from a very well respected dealer, Mike Quinn Dodge in Tulsa Oklahoma. But you know how this crap goes, ask a different person get a different answer. So hopefully we will get a real crew cab soon.

can you please clarify your statement of the new style 2500 series will appear in january as 2002 models. The way I'm reading this is mid production year of the current 2002 2500 and 3500 Rams will change to the new body style and keep the current 24 valve engine until the end of the 2002 production run???

I was under the impression the new style 2500 and 3500 Rams would show up about this time next year (summer/fall 2002) as 2003 models, along with the new Cummins common rail ISB

From what he said he thought the new 2500s were gonna show up around january as 2002 models. All he said about the Diesel was that it was going to remain the same. So who knows... I personaly would like to see them keep this ISB and keep that common rail noise reduction crap in school busses lol ;)

new ram

i got to look at the new "4 door" also. some things i liked, others not. i liked the dash, but lot's of folks don't. some pay big bucks to convert to a white background. personal preference. i agree, it looks better than the pix. btw, the so was with me... ... her opinion: "it's butt ugly" fwiw... ... :D

New Rams

I looked at the new 1500's last weekend too. As with another post here agree the pic's dont do the trucks justice. I did like the dash etc.

The one glaring thing that I did not like was the cheesy honeycomed grill. Its even thinner than my 2001 which is already broken due to some mishap in a parking lot. If you look at the new 2002 grill it looks like you could almost break it by throwing a tennis ball against it. In fact if you leaned butt first against the grill that could break it. In fact the grills on any of the Dodges simply are weak and I have never broken a grill in any of my other vehicles by simple parking lot damage... not so in my Dodge. This one is going to be VERY susceptable to damage and by pretty lightweight flying debris. Just my opinion.

grill

oltrac88

put in a Stull or Trenz or Putco aftermarket grill insert. they aren' t too pricey, and add a nice touch to the truck. they're avilable in polished or brushed or black billet aluminum, and stainless steel tube. look really nice too, i think.

Need a good laugh, read this

Just for kicks I stopped in a local Dodge dealer to see what all the whoop-la is about the "next generation" Ram. I was looking over a silver sport and yep, here comes a hopeful salesman. He was giving the typical sales pitch and telling me stuff I already knew, so I did not pay much attention to his babble. When I made it clear I was in no way interested in purchasing a gasser the sales pitch turned to "we have a few 2001 diesel's left". I said I will be purchasing a 2002 this spring toward the end of the production year. He kept pushing purchasing a 2001 and all the rebates, etc. Once again I continued looking over this "next generation" truck and ignored most of what he was saying. While I was crawling around on hands and knees examining the drivetrain and new frame the salesman said something to the effect I should not prolong buying a new diesel much longer because they "won't be available in a year or two". Well this statement got my attention real fast, so I stopped what I was doing and asked the salesman to repeat that. He then tries to tell me the diesel option won't be available for the 2003 Rams and he was uncertain what the availability would be for 2002 trucks when I planned on buying, so I should take the opportunity to purchase one of the last 2001 trucks they had on the lot. I challenged this idiot salesman to his statement and his answer was " well, uuuhhh, I don't know why they are dropping the diesel option"... At this point I just started to walk off and was real tempted to hand him back his buisness card, instead I threw it in the garbage!!!

Talked to a salesman today while waiting for my 98. 5 is for service and was told of NO 2500/3500 trucks this year???? They would appear as 2003 models. I don't know who to believe.

Don't forget that DC has renewed a 10 year contract with Cummings. Also, if we can't get Cummings, they will give us another diesel.

98. 5 2500Auto,354 and the regular stuff. ( New AERO TANK 60 gal. fuel Capacity. )

Hey 1tuffram

Hey 1tuffram - sounds like you were at Cherry Creek Dodge. My experience there is that they will say anything to make a sale. And they want way too much money.

Dave

The local paper (Kansas City Star) recently did a piece on the new Ram and they, too, noted that the 2500/3500 would not change until the 2003 model year. And I believe they also mentioned the extension of the Cummins contract with Dodge.

Hey, WoW, Finally, I have a Diesel motor named after my last name.

Is the Cummings going to be a high-performance version of the Cummins? The "g" in Cummins would stand for GO?

Merrick Cummings Jr.

P. S. plntmgr, Just givin' ya a hard time. :) No hard feelings?

Hey DHess

You are right!!!! I've never been impressed with Cherry Creek Dodge. They usually only a few trucks on the lot. It happens to be close so I stop by periodically looking for the 2002 truck broucher's (which they always say "it won't be out for a few more months"). Heck, the 2002 trucks have been in production for a few months now. Why is it the broucher dosn't come out for several months AFTER the truck is in production???? I should have went in the building to see for myself. I have always noticed dealers don't want to part with thier "precious" brouchers unless you are serious about purchasing a vehicle.

Any suggestions for a "good" dealer to drop by??? I have heard John Elway is not very good due to thier large size and "mechanized" approach to selling vehicles. How about Christopher's Dodge?? Think I've heard some good about the Dodge dealers in Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, and Fort Collins.

Hey 1tuffram

Concerning dealers. I would never buy anything from Cherry Creek. I did have good luck with their service dept when I lived in Aurora but they tried to take me to the cleaners a couple times on new trucks. I haven't heard anything good about any of Elway's dealerships. I have had good luck with the service dept at Foothills in Fort Collins but they are the same company as Cherry Creek (Dealin' Doug). The jury is still out on Ferrero in Loveland but they do have a great body shop. I got my rig at Prestige in Longmont - they did me good on price but had bad experience with service. Have heard good things about Jonhson's in Brighton (?) but haven't been there. I have also heard some favorable comments about Christopher. Carlin in Colo Spgs seemed good in the service dept a few years ago - had a separate shop and mechanics for trucks. Of course I like Dee Motors in Anaconda, Montana but that's a ways to go. Anyway, now you know all I know. Have a good one.

Dave

Hey Colorado guys, I recommend staying away from Christophers Dodge. I got screwed there big time... . I won't go into it, but I made four 45 mile trips there to resolve issues and they were unwilling to cooperate after the sale (go figure). Anyway, all the more reason not to believe the five screw dealership allegiance. Just food for thought!

Eric O.

Oh by the way, Christophers Dodge World is on the consumer watch list for complaints of bad business dealings...

The new 1500

Went down to a dealer to look at the new ram and some things I like and most I don't.

I like the back seat and the fold out flat storage shelf and the split rear seat. I sat back there and It didn't seem like more room than my 2500 QC other than that the real style door is nice though.

The other thing I don't lke is the fact that they made the radiator smaller and moved it to the right then made a separate radiator with a separate fan for the AC

and then the guy says it can haul 9-13K NO WAY with that radiator!!!!

plus like all chryslers, the gas engine has the dist. cap way in the back where you can't even see it let alone get to it for service.

The dash looks like a chevy S-10 new model style YUCK!

and right now it is more $ than my 01 Diesel the 02 diesel right now is 37K base!!!

guess I will keep my truck til I have to shoot it lol

Have U checked this out!!!

I just thought I'd throw this in there. . it was posted on another threadk, but I thought it was fitting in this one too... I hope this stays true... Check out that Allison trany... . on a Cummins. . I guess we will see in January when they come out at the Auto-show...

I had the displeasure of driving one (1500)this weekend. It rode like a car, sounded like a toyota, and the center console is about half the size of the "older" ones. The guy was really hyping the power. It felt quick, but it didn't push me into the seat.

Oh yeah, the seats are not for a person with a wide rear. I was able to get one and a half cheeks on the seat, the other half-a-cheek was on the console.

grill

Batfish340:

I dont run into stuff it runs into me. The grill damage was on noticeable during a wash job. It had partially broken the grill and had made a 'dent' visible only from the side. It looks like someone had let something drop against the truck hitting the grill. This happened in a mall parking lot.
