Loss of Towing Power nad Hi EGT

Advice for towing 5th wheel

We are thinking of replacing our 2000 3500 with a shortbed 3500. I am interested in the Pullrite, but I'm wondering if you can hook and unhook at an angle. It appears that with the adapter attached to the kingpin, you would be forced to be parallel with the trailer in order to get things lined up.

Thanks,

Kevin

I have the 2500 short bed and the Pulrite superglide. The lit. says you can come at an angle up to 15 deg either side. I've not had any problems hitching up at a slight angle. or even up hill a little. The hitch plate rotates about 20 deg either way before it starts sliding back. Hope this helps. Enjoy the confidence of the superglide. I can turn a full 90 deg and still have about 5 inches clearance.

Keep grinnin,

I find that anything more than about 10* in any direction binds the pin latch so that I can't pull the release lever. It's best to avoid hitching at an angle anyway, so this hitch kind of forces my hand. I love the hitch though. :)

Thanks for the replies. We live at the back of a cul-de-sac and it's impossible for me to hook/unhook with no angle between the truck and trailer. We also do a lot of National Forrest camping, which can force us into odd angles. I'll have to drag the trailer home and check to see how close I am to 15 degrees.

Thanks,

Kevin

This is what i bought instead of the slider and I saved alot of money. .

The unit hooks to the kingpin and extends the hitch 10" ... Not as much as the slider but it is a regular hookup and all you need is a regular hitch

I bought the Regular Pull-rite hitch with the super rails so it can come completely out and leave the bed clean.

I can understand the stress that a gooseneck adaptor can cause to a 5th wheel. What kind of stress can be put on a 5th wheel with the extended pin box shown? When I bought my Excel RT the pin box was 11" so when I purchase the '05 SB 3500 I bought the longest pinbox that the pin box mfg makes and that is 17". I ask to see if 17" pin box was the longest made and I was told that was the longest due to stress. Would appreciate any comments to this.

I don't know how much extra stress there is. I know the goosneck has a BIG leverage on that because of over 3' of steel... . This is just 10" extension... It might be about double so about 20" I have done about 5000 miles this year, Off-road for the toyhauler it is, rough roads and such... . So far, so good.
