ONE OTHER Quick question about LSD

The friend looking at the truck from Dave Smith Dodge was told that the truck he is looking at also doesn't have Limited Slip in the rear axel. They told him that they could install it for the same $ that Dodge charges on the sticker. What do you guys think about DEALER installed standard LSD? Let me know... Chris

Limited Slip

I like my OEM LSD just fine for what the peacup was ordered for but if there had been extra money to burn, then I would look into the alternatives from ARB or Detriot.

I have it...

Works great when I don't need it, but when I do, it does not do much and is very little help. Doubt that I would spend the extra money again. :( :( If it really worked, it would be great.

dealer installed LSD

I would double check on this... . they would have to change the rear end... . order the parts, etc, etc and then probably have an inexperienced mechanic put it in..... Sounds to me like a salesman promising something he dosen't know about. He probably thinks LSD is a kind of radio speaker or such. If you friend wants an LSD, and mine works great,I love it, the dealer should be able to find a truck with the options and color your friend wants and swap it out or pick it up from another dealer... ... the dealers do it all the time. good luck

One advantage of an open diff is you can put a Lock-right locker in it for relatively cheap, not as strong as a Detroit but no weaker than the stock diff. I think Fritz and at least one guy on TDR are running these. See www.powertrax.com for info.

I do not know what the dealer would cost, but the actual LSD (for a DANA 70) cost about $550 from Randy's Ring and Pinion. As I am not overly familiar with differentials, I do not know what else would be needed for the install. A new carrier too????
