I have a strange problem on my 2000 ram 2500. I was driving the other day and lost my brakes, I drove home and noticed fluid pouring out of the passenger side drum. I pulled it off and the adjuster was sitting in the rotor. I inspected everything and put it back together. drove fine for about a week and then did the same thing. so i put new wheel cylinder, pads, hardware kit, and adjuster kit. Drives fine for another week and now same thing, what the heck is going on here?? the adjuster is just falling out and allowing the cylinder to push all the way out and then leak fluid, but why????

possibly the drum is worn to much? but it really sounds like something is broke or cracked letting things move where they shouldnt? you replaced everything? adjuster, wheel cylinder, pads and spring kit ? if so i would strip it down and really inspect the backing plate and have the drum checked or just install a new one.

ok, I brought the drum to the shop and they said it is worn too much to turn down but not quite worn to the junk stage. two mechanics I talked to said I put the adjuster in backwards and there turning themselves all the way in and falling out, this make sence, but what happened the first time when nobody touched the brakes?? I'm going to put it back together tomorrow and triple check that everything is put in right.

The answer

"... but what happened the first time when nobody touched the brakes??"

Answer: Factory worker A to factory worker B, " Hey, I've got to pee. Just stick these things in here 'till I get back!" :-laf

Probably the same guy who greased 3 out of 4 of the cups on my original rear u-joint!

I've driven the truck 25000 miles without a problem and now they won't stay together for more than a week, something else is going on.
