After sifting through countless searches and spending a great amount of time brainstorming I finally came up with a FP sender mount that I like (see picture). I took an 8" plated fence brace and bent it about 70 degrees and mounted it to the rear corner hood brace. Then I bolted a 1. 5" conduit bracket (from local hardware store) to the end of the fence brace and mounted the sender in it. From there I used a two foot section of Diesel fuel line (from West Marine) attached to one of Ray's Banjo bolts on the bottom of the Fuel filter. Makes for a solid, easy to get to mount. Just another option for those who are in the same boat as I was when contemplating a mounting location. If you want a better look at it go to the picture album titled, **Bill's** 2001 Ram, in the "Readers Rigs" section.

That roll of yellow wire is the probe wire for my pyro meter. It was easier to roll it up than modify it. Although I haven't heard of any complaints about sending units for the Dakota Digitals I did read that some people have had problems with failures on the AM's. Hopefully my remote mount will lessen the chances of failure, time will tell. One of the reasons I bought the Dakota was because the sending units are only $24. 00, making replacement fairly cheap. The sending unit I received was made by VDO, not sure who makes the AM's.

That's a good looking bracket, Bill, and I kinda' wish I'd seen it before I put my senders in because now that it's done I hope the senders hold up or I'll wish I'd done it more like yours. I have two so I can read pre and post filter pressure that are snuggled into the same corner that you used. I made a block with passages and mounted the things to it like this:

Nice setup and pics, have been looking for a way to mount mine, it's still in box since it's been so cold and the garage isn't heated. Appreciate the sharing of your knowledge. Think I going to do it that way 2.

kshine,

Your setup looks like a quality install but I do see what you mean about changing out senders, a little cramped. Is that a compression fitting and copper pipe that I see? If so, how did they work out, any leaks or pressure pulse problems? I probably would have went with the dual setup but was too lazy and cheap to do it. Nice looking install!

Mechanical Mount

Here is my mechanical gauge mount. It has pre and post filter and can be switch the gauge on the A pillar. Both gauge have snubbers and can be turned off in case of leaks.

wlowe,

It is cramped, but I put a knurled nut on the back sender connector so that I can tighten it with my fingers. There's just enough room to unscrew either sender and bring it out. Yes, that's 3/16" copper line. I used it because the senders have a tiny inlet orifice and I figured that there'd be high pressure with quick response presented by the volume of the tubing. That's just what I got - the gauge comes to full reading very quickly. I don't get any sign of pump pulsing at the gauge, maybe because I used the inlet and outlet of the filter instead of the banjo on the VP44. After reading what others said about pulsing that they saw it seemed that most every case resulted from using the schrader banjo. No leaks at all. I don't have faith in the newer plastic compression barrels especially when used with diesel so I used copper. All in all a very successful thing but I could have had that with less grief during the install if I'd put the whole thing out where yours is.

Crap-n-Cray,

I like it! I'm going to tee into the pump outlet line to my guage and mount a mechanical under the hood right where yours are to keep the electrical senders honest. I found listings in Enco's catalog for good pressure gauges at as little as $4. 50 for a +/-5% gauge, $9. 00 or so for +/-2%, and something like $21. 00 for a +/-1% - all mechanical. They even had some with 4" faces. They made me wonder why I bothered with the electrical ones from one of our illustrious vendors.

WOW - Kshine and Crap-n-Cray, you guys are real craftsman  Wish one of you lived near me I need help when it comes to this type of project. Very nice work.

Here's another option......

And yeah I know the wiring is messy. It gets that way after all the stuff I added. (Gauges, Air horn & compressor, transmission cooler fans, Home made EZ switch, Pusher Pump, Second transmission Temp Sensor)
