The NEW and IMPROVED? format stinks

Hi Steve,

I'd like to add another vote requesting Tapatalk app support be added to the TDR forum software.

I use Tapatalk on my iPad and iPhone to access a good half-dozen forums. It's not an end-all solution, but it does make posting, replying, and quoting much faster, cleaner and simpler.

Thanks in advance,

John L.

Might be ok IF YOU USE REGULAR language and not the short hand version. we already have enough symbols used to express ones self.

Tap A Talk would be nice I dont need it but I do frequent this forum a lot on my phone and it would really be nice to have it available, Thanks.

I guess I am just not impressed enough with tapatalk to care. I have installed and uninstalled versions over the last couple years and always end up deleting it. To me it's much easier to browse with the internet browser on my ipad. In fact I actually can't stand when a forum tries to redirect me to tapatalk, it's a PITA to use.

Following the release of a new tablet-optimized Tapatalk HD earlier this year and an updated Tapatalk 4 for phones in August, Tapatalk is making its base app free in Google Play. What is now just called "Tapatalk" is the latest version 4 update, with the new "holo" styling and features, which was previously a paid application that was $4. 99 at launch.

The folks over at Tapatalk are actually doing an interesting dual APK offering from one Play Store listing, which will give the older-style Tapatalk 2 app to those on Android 2. 3 and earlier (for compatibility reasons), and the Tapatalk 4 app to anyone on ICS and above. If you're a traditionalist and want the classic Tapatalk app, you can download it from its support pages.

Those who would like premium features will now have access to Tapatalk Pro for $2. 99, formerly known as Tapatalk HD. This version offers full tablet optimization, and Tapatalk says it will continue to roll out more premium features at no additional cost in the future.

I agree Tapatalk has been around for a long time. The free version is probably where users have had problems but pay the $2-4 dollars once and your set. Not to mention TDR competitors are on TapaTalk and I access those more now than TDR because of this feature. I always have my phone but I don't always have a computer with me.

Tapatalk has a history of serious security issues, poor support for forum admins, changing terms without notice which work against the interest of the sites, etc. There is a trend these days of many sites trying to find ways to abandon them because of their shody security and policies. Their most recent change is forcing spammy Tapatalk signatures on forum posting unless the site pays them a fee. Before that was adding chat to forums without permission or notice, and trying to make it look like it was something the forum was hosting on Tapatalk.

Here's a recent discussion on an admin site, 76% of forum owners are against using it:

There is an alternative in development that I know of that I've been keeping an eye on. When its released, if they've addressed the concerns forum admins have with Tapatalk, and they have tight security, I will discuss it with Robin about being on the table as a possible addition.

I use tapatalk on other forums and it is very popular with the members. I Have heard zero complaints about the issues you mention. I'd suggest that a big part of the 76% you mention, may have not actually used it much.

also, judging by the recent comments, I'd say that more than 76% are pretty negative about your format change...
Change is difficult for some. But, change is inevitable, growth is optional...
