I came up with a very simple fix for a flaky fuel sender. As some of you know, the problem that so many people have seen is the pivot part of the sender loosens up over time (some came loose from the factory) and this allows the contacts to move away from the surface they are supposed to make contact with. There have been a couple of different solutions posted over time (poke HERE to see them). My simple solution is very similar to these but it requires no extra parts. All you have to do is:
1) Cut away the center stem of the plastic pivot arm (the part that sticks up about 1/8") so it is flush with the outer body. This exposes the metal stem that the plastic pivot presses on to.
2) Take the metal bracket that holds the sender on to the side of the assembly and flip it around so the round part is covers the metal stem (i. e. install it upside down). Mark where the metal stem contacts the bracket and drill a small hole in the bracket so the stem can go through it and the bracket can be tightened down.
The bracket will now hold the pivot against the sender and the contacts will not move away from the surface.
