Just heard about the Smarty. I have a 5 year old Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power Module (DDTT) box that I believe does fuel and timing (made by Edge, like the EZ with slightly different specs, supposedly optimized for DD's injectors). I run DDII's for the sake of discussion. My question comes from reading threads about "stacking" comps, etc with the Smarty. I read the directions for the Smarty off their website and of course it say's disconnect everything else as it will do all the work by re-programming your truck's ECM into a fuel/timing box. Since "we" love to experiment (especially when told not to), I have noticed that some of you have already "stacked" the Smarty with comp's and other boxes. Wondering if anyone has any data on exactly what is happening with: The Smarty alone. Smarty stacked with various products (EZ, COMP, VA, etc). A chart would be fantastic but I am really trying to determine what exactly is happening. Totaly understand Smarty only, but what happens when you stack? If the Smarty code becomes the new "stock" baseline, does your add on box further increase timing/fuel on top of this or is there a comparison and subsequent compromise sent to the VP44? I make my living (like most of us?) with my truck and don't want to screw anything up by experimenting. Seems a number of guys have already gone there so looking for some info and I know there is someone out there that knows all of this like the back of their hand. .

Only Marco knows exactly what the Smarty does.

In general, the Smarty can do its own timing. You select this by using a Software (SW) with an odd number.

If you have a box that you want to stack with the Smarty and that box adds timing you would likely want to select a SW with an even number. That way you get the only get the Smarty no timing ( Catcher ) SW. Smarty timing and the box timing could very well be in conflict with each other. That is generally not recommended. Basically, its like stacking two timing boxes which is also not generally recommended.

Typically, people just like to use the Smarty by itself with no timing box. The Smarty SW fills the all the "go fast" or "more power" urge about as good as any add on box. In many cases, maybe better.

If you check my sig, notice that I now run a TST stacked with the Smarty. The TST is a fueling box and only compliments what the Smarty does. In general, thats the type of stacking you see with the Smarty. IE: Smarty plus fueling

NoSeeUm is right but there are a few folks that have had success using the

"odd" #'erd programs with their Comps. One just has to do some experimenting. The nice thing about Smarty is you have lots of choices.

I am stacking Smarty with TST PM3 (had it already... ). The most adventurous I've been so far is SW#7 on Smarty and PM3 on Level 3. The incredible low-end and no defueling to redline provided by Smarty combined with the extra "hit" that the PM3 provides @ 2000rpm+ is just amazing. I am already pushing my boost off the 35psi gauge with stock HX35.

In my case timing is brought into play by Smarty. . TST does not adjust timing, although it does tap the pump wire (knock on simulated wood grain).

I've got an EZ. My son recently got a Smarty. If I was buying new I'd go with the Smarty. However in trying out my son's Smarty, I don't see enough of a difference between the two to justify shelving my EZ for the Smarty.

Most people stacking Smarty with another box are doing so with a box that taps the pump wire for more fueling. Blue Chip and TSTs are preferred since they only add fuel and no timing.

Perhaps there is a reason to stack a Smarty and EZ, but I don't know what that reason would be. I might get a Smarty this winter to solve a cold weather surge that I attribute to my EZ. But I need to wait for colder weather to test it out before committing the $.

FWIW, Smarty in place of my old EZ got rid of that symptom.

I am running mine on SW9 TST5. The turbo spools so fast it is scary. I have an adjustable boost elbow installed and I have it set for 28-30 psi. Running empty, it is pretty hard to push the EGT much past 1000F.

I have not towed yet, so I have zero experience with the Smart - TST combo yet. But I intend to real soon. So I will be putting the TST defueling feature to the test under a real load.
