What do you guys think I should do... When I start my truck in the morning, it sputters and misses and smokes for about a minute or so. If I rev it at start up it will go away right then. . It's always done it for the most part but it seems worse than normal the past month or so.

I read through these forums, but not all that often. I know it is a pretty common "problem" but has anything ever really been solved with this issue?

I'm debating whether or not I should take it in. My dealer has been awesome in every aspect but when I mention the injector word they seem to blow me off. They will look at it if I really want them to, but I really don't want to go through the trouble unless I need to..... Advice? Thanks.

I personally will never take my truck again to a dealer for engine work as they are retarded and a rip off !!!! Go to www.diesel.org ( association of diesel specialists ) where you can find an ADS member service facility nearest you. I found acadiana diesel injection service in new Iberia, La. and they are super!Oo.

I'm good friends with one of the best techs in the state and I trust him to work on my truck BUT it just gets me because he will do anything to my truck if I ask him to but as soon as I bring up the injector issue, his quote is... "Awww, if you had a bad injector you'd know it. Just keep driving it as long as it runs fine"

I guess I will get a second opinion this week... One thing I'm wondering is that I've added a healthy dose of PS (white bottle) in the last 2 tanks. Could that do it??? I normally use the gray bottle.

Had the same issue although only lasted for about 10-15 sec. So far 3 tanks of doubled up PS (gray bottle) has cleared it up. Good luck.

When the wait to start light went out she just wouldn't start. When you cranked it, lots of white smoke, would almost catch and sound like a flooded gasser. After cycling the ignition several times, it finally stayed running. Really rough until I got the RPM's up. Got 11,000 miles on it, totally stock. Is there a re-flash I need or something. Do have 4 oz of MMO and 12 oz of PS silver in the fuel.

I had posted this a couple of days ago and didn't get any replies. Yesturday it started fine and no smoke.

Coolslice,

Depending on how cold it is white smoke is normal. This morning when I fired mine up, it was 10F and it automatically idled up to 1k and the white smoke rolled out for about 10-15 seconds even with it running right up to 1k RPMs. The rough idle may be carbon build-up on the injector tips. I know I have experienced this before because I don't tow much and running around town in it, the carbon builds up and it coughs and sputters on startup. I have cured this by using a bottle of sea foam in the tank with about 1/4 of a tank of fuel or less then run it pretty aggressively. There are mountains where I live so I just run up the mountain a few times to get it nice and warm. That with the sea foam seems to clean it up pretty good and do away with the sputtering. I have recently been running MMO and PS (grey bottle) and have had good luck with that and the sputtering has seemed to stay away. I mix it about half and half in old 20oz aqufinia water bottles and just dump it in the tank befroe I fill her up.

Mine did the same thing. It was #6 injector leaking. You need to get it fixed before it does any damage to your engine. Dealers hate to put in injectors because they are a restricted part. The techs have to jump through hoops to get them. Also Its a pain to figure out which one is leaking.

All I have to say about injector problems is 1. Buy Don's injectors 2. Run 2 micron filtration 3. Use stanadyne. All of this is expensive stuff but worth every penny. Jay

I believe their is a new d. c. ecm flash out, if you haven't had one since it was new. Mine used to smoke and run rough when cold, but i loaded smarty which has the newest chreysler software flashes.

If your truck is an auto and you do lots of in-town or lightly loaded driving, based on my own experiences with smoke and missing I would not be surprised if you have carbon fouling up the injectors. Here is what I have done with outstanding results:

Preferably with the tank half-full, yank the fuel filter, fill the filter housing with Seafoam, and drop in a new filter. Dump a full bottle of fuel system cleaner in the tank - I have been using NAPA for this. Start and let it idle for 5-10 minutes. Then go drive it like you're trying to blow it up - steep hills and/or a heavy load, 2,500-3,000 rpm for at least 30 minutes.

I am now experimenting with keeping the low-end fuel enhancement turned down or off unless I am really trying to leave somewhere in a hurry or towing heavy. It seems logical to me that too much low end fuel, light loads, and constant low RPM can conspire to cause carbon buildup. Time will tell...

Good luck
Mike

Hey I used to own a lexus RX300 i totalled it a few years back when I blacked out while driving (meds, hot, no food, all soda hate water). Its been a few years and a 4 address changes come how they foudn me and sent me some paper work regarding a lawsuit a huge number of lexus owners got together and filed about oil sludge and new engines. I know the wealthier folks drive the lexus's and such that need all the bells and whistles so they can afford to get together and go after lexus. But what I am getting after is DC continues to turn their on this problem most likely cuz they dont wan tto fix it so they deny it exists but will gladdy take you hard earned dollar to pull your truck in their shop and stick their head up there butt for 10 minutes and charge you 1 hour diag. they at least need to come out with a tsb addressing that their is no problem (though their is) and or I guess somebody needs to start a website and get alot of us together and go after DC to get a solution and reimbursed for these techs that seem to only be taking your free to them money and running to the nearest crack dealer or what ever they do. But this issue really grinds my gears and I seriously doubt I am the only one.
