:( Took the truck to the dealer after work today. Didnt drive it all weekend. Went out this morning and it still read lower pressures. About 3 miles from work the pressure went back up to normal.  Is there a pressure valve in these things?Ive heard they are tied into the engine temp sensor and may be a 2 stage type of pump. Service manger mentioned different valving, electronics, etc. I told him that its there tonight so that they have a cold engine and pump to deal with.

Michael,

AHHHH... finally someone else who has a Dr, Jekyl and Mr. Hyde pump like I do. Misery loves company!!:D :D My lift pump drops to around 5psi shortly or immediately after starting and recovers to 12-13 after a mile, sometimes many miles. Mostly happens after being stone cold but has happened when it was warmer out. Once it recovers, it never drops again. In order for the dealer to witness it, I will have to leave it with them to start fresh and cold from sitting overnight. PLEASE let me know how you make out and what the stealer said. I know the pump shouldnt be doing this... . it's just proving it when the damn thing reads 13psi the majority of the time. :{ Good luck!

transfer pump failure

i think i may be about to join the not very elite club of failed transfer pumps. my pressures have been 14 at idle, and 11 at cruise ever since i put the gauge on. recently they have started to fall off slightly. i now have 12-13 at idle, and about 9 at cruise. seems to be slowly falling off. needless to say, i'm watching it closely--not much so far, but i wonder... ... ... . only 13K on the truck, too.

my understanding is that the 03's will have a Federal-Mogul pump. i tried to search the web for info on the F-M pump, to see if it could be retrofitted to our trucks, but came up empty handed.

Challenger I have the same problem with my pump. This is my second lift pump and it now has around 20k on it. Last week when it was in the mid 20’s no problem came up to pressure and stayed around 14 lbs all day. Today went out the temp was 45 degrees and it dropped to 8 lbs and stayed that way for about a mile and came back up to 14 lbs.

Mike... . I feel your pain!:{ My truck has done this exactly!! I wish the thing would just finally crap out. The interesting thing at least with mine, is that it never does it after it has recovered from its initial drop. At first, I thought it was a gelling or thickened fuel going throught the filter thing..... but a prefilter check confirmed the pressure drop was real. Any of the lift pump Gurus have a clue about why it is doing this?

redneckdr..... Your slow decline in pressure may be a result of your filter getting dirty. If you are reading pressures post filter, Connect a gauge prefilter to verify your drop. If there is a pressure differential (drop) between both gauges, it is time for a filter change.

F-M and Carter

yep, i got about that far, too. i guess the new pump on the '03 will either be the same, or an updated version/new version. no info to help us now, though, that i could find...

Challenger, you are right. The dealer checked the pump pressure and there is nothing wrong at this time. Course now my gauge says the same thing as well. Last week it was down in the mid 20s as far as temps. It has warmed up consideable since then. Mike R is supposed to bring a pressure gauge with him to Pendelton so Im hoping that the gauge pressure will drop and I can then get a comparison. Til then:confused:
