Another that won't start!!

My 03 with 90k miles, edge kit, but 90% original won't start. Story is. . truck received a bad batch of biodiesel. Have run hundreds of gallons without issue. It would not run under power (5 mph max), fuel filter was not plugged but heavy. Tank was emptied, flushed, and new #2 100% added, injector cleaner added also to new fuel filter. Truck started fine ran well for 1 trip. Started truck 1 week later, it started with excessive cranking, ran rough with loud knocking noise at idle, (top of motor) oil psi normal. Once truck warmed up, the sound went away and it ran at 100%. Shut it off again for 1 hour same noise at idle and idled rough but noise stopped in 1-2 minutes, again ran fine. 3 days later, no start, no smoke, not even close to firing. Fuel filter is full, clean and i can hear the fuel rail making noise like normal. Is that knocking noise an injector? Lift pump? Had never had any prior fuel issues, leaks, etc. Going to try the starting fluid idea, Any ideas?? Do not have a fuel pressure gauge yet, any links on how to install? Thanks... ... ...

Thanks for the advise, today I tried starting it with starting fluid, (the one recomended for diesels) the engine cranked faster, tried to start on the fluid for a few seconds and back to just dry cranking. My fuel filter is full, i opened it up and with the key on it slowly filled, not sure how much psi it should have, can't be much. A couple times the bussing sound was longer then normal with the key on but eventually stopped. Should I by a scan tool? Any advise appreciated. Thanks

If they did not cook all the water out of the bio-diesel, it will destroyed everything form the pump to the injectors. I wish I could post some pictures of the one that a member sent to us for core on the modded rail he received from Us. He had to drop the tank and replaced all lines to the Pump, had F1 clean every injector line, replaced all injectors and CP3,lift. Bio-Diesel is noth"en to mess with UNLESS it is refinery manufactured. I hear this way to often. jsffd I hope that repairs all allot less involved

I'd check that lift pump. With the cover off the fuel filter bowl should be flowing quite a bit of fuel.

Yesterday, I did a few checks, the lift pump is working, it cycles for a few seconds, mine is on the back of the filter housing and i can feel it running, i removed an injector line off the rail and fuel does squirt out when cranking, exact amount who knows? My heating system is working, no real change when motor is warmed. It seems to me like the injectors are not firing, low fuel rail pressure? Or a bad switch/sensor/trigger? Thanks for the info on the bullydog press gauge, i'll try that next.

Injectors? I had to have all six of mine replaced because of similar issues of no-start.

What percentage bio did you use? Who made it? Did it meet ASTM standards?

Just because you feel the lift pump buzzing doesn't mean it's putting out any pressure. I had one fail and it sounded just like the brand new one I installed but had no pressure. A fuel pressure gauge set up is less than $100 and takes an hour to install, I would verify the easy/inexpensive stuff first then move on from there. Have you disconnected the Edge yet?

ive seen this twice in columbus of the retarded green obsessed people at OSU. They made a bad batch and had the same problems you are having. I got a call from a friend who knows the professor of the alternative fuels program and i went in to look at it. They tried firing it up and yelled for them to shut it off. One idiot tried revving his and driving it. It finally would not start so i pulled the head off of it and he pretty much trashed the engine. The other truck i had them replace all 6 injectors and clean out the fuel system. Its running fine now.

Ask yourself next time you fuel up, is a savings of a few dollars worth the $6000 in damage for a reman engine or $2100 for 6 injectors and a flush?

The bio diesel i used was processed poorly due to equipment failure. The fuel was full of fatty oils, not water. (3 cars broke down) The fuel system has been flushed, and the truck ran fine initially, but once it was shut down and restarted a few days later the problems started. Noise, rough idle then the no start. How fast does the lift pump fill the filter bowl? The duration seems normal for the motor cycling and the filter is full when it take it apart. The issue is not bio diesel, but poor quality control on my part. If used correctly, the 40 thousand trouble free miles, 100% summer 70% winter, times two vehicles at 45 cents a gallon is well worth it.

X2, The D-Max and Powerstokes are effected More. . Anymore than 5% refinery made is just not worth the risk. IMO the OP is not finish with his Bio-diesel problem. . Continue uses it will show its ugly head.
