few months ago i adjusted the valves on my truck and when i went to use the timing pin it wouldn't engage properly. as i rolled the engine around to where the hole should be it never dropped in i only felt a slight (very) bump. only thing i could figure is some knuckle head left it in before and cranked the engine#@$%!. does this sound like what happened and has anyone here delt with this? that thing looks like a SOB to get out then what about the broken piece (assuming it is)?

The engegement of the pin is a very slight bump so I wouldn't be surprised if it is still ok but it is not big deal to remove. Just pull hard on the pin and it will come out. I usually don't replace the star washer. I just replace the O-Ring and reinstall the pin and call it good. Even with just the O-Ring it is in there pretty darn good.

OK maybe i'm just an idiot, thought it would be more defined. it didn't seem i could positively identify TDC. it was OK for valve adjustment but i was thinking about checking the timing and didn't feel the pin would be accurate enough. either way i guess i'll snatch it out and take a look.

thanks for the fast reply, more questions on the way :D
