Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 5th gear problem...

As you can see from my sig I run 315 Bf Goodriches. Well I really like them but when towing, I do have to keep the speed up 70+ not always fun. Expecially earlier this summer , I got plenty of bad looks taking up the fast lane with a 32 ft boat even though I was running 75-78.

But at realistic speeds the taller tire just takes away too much gear ratio.

So I decided to move to a smaller tire, cheaper than changing gears.

I'm just having a tough decision, I know I'm going to run BF's but I don't know if I want 295's or 305's

Any suggestions ?

Did some reading on the internet today. And after using Bf Goodrich's for the last 10 years I decided to make a change.

I'm going to try Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's . From everything I have read it is equal to or better than the All Terrains. Plus they have a 50k warranty.

Since the largest I can get is a 285/75/16 I guess that makes my decision on sizes for me.

Is anyone using these tires ?

Sorry- Should have given more detail. I have the 285/75/16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T's, but not the Revo's. I also have a '64 power wagon with 35x12. 5x16. 5 BFG A/T's. The BFG's have alot more meat on the treads (and space in between); the Duelers seem to be built more for the highway. I'll probably get 40k out of the Dueler's, and I'll probably buy something that's E rated next time for the firmer sidewalls.

I am running the revo's in 265/75/16/e. I have right at 60k on them and they do need to be replaced for winter. If it were summer I would continue with them for another 2 or 3 months. I have been very happy with them. I have not towed over 8k of weight with them but at least up to that weight they have been great. Also do well with 2k in the bed. The traction is excellent dry, wet, snow and even offroad except in nasty mud. Noise is low. I was just in Costco the other day and they had some but not in 265 but could/would order them for 174. 00 each including mounting , balancing, new stems, rotation and road hazard. I am actually going to stop by there today and order set to replace the current ones.

cwarner -

I'm running the exact tire that you are considering. I have 30k miles on them and it looks like I'm about halfway through the tread with very even wear. So far these are the best all around tires that I have ever had and I have run the BFG ATs. Like BarryG said, they are quiet and do great on dry, wet, snow, ice, and light mud - heavy mud is another story. I have towed some fairly heavy loads with no problems at all - just pump 'em up to 65 psi. Unless I decide to step up in tire size, I'll buy them again. Both the BFG's and the REVOs have the same tread depth - 17/32", but my experience is that the REVOSs don't pick up (and throw) rocks quite as bad as the BFGs did. The REVOs have a 50k mile treadlife warranty and the BFGs have no treadlife warranty.
