ANOTHER Tire Question

I definitely will be putting MUCH larger tires on the Beast - if I can ever get these OEM Michelins to wear out... ! I can't really afford to go to 19. 5" wheels, so I've been keeping my eyes open for a 16" tire that matches my driving style (rarely carry anything and even more rarely tow anything; less than 1% off road). I was excited to have learned about the Denman Coyote (305/85), but Denman told me they quit producing them over a year ago. That left a lot of great 315/75s to choose from, but the tread styles tend to be more aggressive than I really need (although they LOOK fabulous!). With what I'm aware of, the Nitto Terra Grapplers or the BFG TAs are top possibilities so far.



Does anyone know of a decent more road-type tire that fits the 16" wheel with about a 35" diameter?

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Especially Dan's comprehensive reply. It's looking like I've pretty much worked my way through most of what's available in the 315/75 arena. Too bad Denman got out of the 305/85 game. They'd have been perfect!



'Guess I'll stick with the Nitto or the BFG route - although a buddy of mine (poor soul - drives a F-350) has fared pretty well with his Mickey Thompson Baja Radials...

I'm real happy with my 305/70/16 AT ProComps on 16X8 factory wheels. VERY little noise, good steering response and wearing very even. I got mine when 4 wheel parts had a buy 3 get 1 free sale, which they seem to do at least once a year.

I need new tires soon too. I am looking at the Dunlop Radial Rover RV. The LT315/75R16 is about $126 a tire. Not a bad price at all. Load Range D too.

I also ran the 305/85 Denman Coyote. 3 still have 50% tread left but 1 I think tore a steel belt inside the tire. Couldn't balance it and it has a buldge in the tread. When I switched to a wider wheel it happened.



My Coyote's are 6 years old, have 50% of the tread left, are a load range C and only cost 135. 95 each (36" tire)

My load range D BFG AT in the 315 size had a much higher weight rating then the stock E range Miches. I don't put too much emphasis on the Load Range.

Me either. I ran a C tire for 6 years. No problems whatsoever.

The BFG TA KO in 295/75 16 load range D is rated 3415lbs @65 psi, thats more than most load range E tires. 6000lbs on the rear axle will put you close to 10000 gross, that sounds like plenty to me.

I just put on a set of 315 Big O X/T's they are great!! good all around tread not to aggressive not to wimpy. it was 760. 55 out the door they gave me 100$ for my WORN out pro comp a/t's. plus the big o warranty kicks but, if you get a hole to big to patch/plug they replace the tire free no matter what the miles! also came with lifetime free rotate and balance every 5,000 miles.
