Looks like they are correct. Plan provisions should have been mailed to you. You should also request a full refund of the plan as it should not have been written in the first place.

I could see the
They got you on removing the bed. That is totally screwed up but it is in the language.

I think so.

On manufacturer warranty, they would have to prove that the changes to the truck actually contributed to the failure. On extended warranty they really don't have that burden. This is my opinion based on what I have seen over the years. Extended warrantees are not as regulated by law.

This appears to be the case. The bed removal clause does invalidate the warranty it seems. However, the dealer did sell the warranty to me at around 30k miles, AFTER I’d installed the bed, and they inspected the truck at the time of the warranty sale, so I’ve let them know I’ll be expecting a refund for the warranty unless they are able to get an exemption, which I doubt is the case.

Assuming I’m going to be doing this repair myself, I’ll likely be going with the Genos actuator so that I don’t have to mess around with calibration, unless any of you all have a better idea. Hopefully it goes well.

In other news, after chasing the persistent droning/roaring sound in my truck at 1800-2000 rpms under medium to heavy throttle, I’m going in for a warranty torque converter replacement for my Aisin transmission in a couple weeks (powertrain warranty luckily, and a different service department). I really am hoping it is the problem, as my wife and son have been fed up for a long time with the sound.

I’ll be honest, I’m losing a lot of faith in Ram. This is my 6th Cummins truck (one from every generation from my 1993 onwards) but I am wavering in my resolve to someday get another.

" I’m going in for a warranty torque converter replacement for my Aisin transmission"

Will be waiting to hear if this cures the issue!!!

Because of what you went through I called Mopar Vehicle Protection line to see if I change my pumpers to Buckstop pumpers will that void my plan. I used your situation as an example for my concern. What I was told is that when you took the bed off it changed the classification of the truck. Changing the bumper would not change the classification unless I used it for commercial use which I am not. So thank you for bringing this up and I am sorry you are getting the screws on this. To me it is total BS considering what you did has nothing to do with the issue.

Thank you for mentioning that, as it gave me an idea. I called the sales manager at the dealer who I’ve been working with and asked if there was a commercial version of maxcare that I could switch to, since my truck is owned by my business anyway and had a flatbed from the beginning. He said there was and is now working on trying to see if we can make that happen. I’ll update here when I hear more.

Another update. The sales manager at my local dealer has tried numerous times with the folks at MaxCare to get them to switch my warranty to the commercial version, and they won't budge. So the dealer is going to refund the total cost that I paid from the MaxCare warranty originally. I'm not too upset about this, as I only had 14,000 miles left on that MaxCare warranty anyway, and have already had many other things repaired using it, so I'm ok with the outcome and I learned a bit about the policy for future trucks.

Apparently there is this commercial policy though, does anyone have a copy of the terms for that by any chance? Or know where I could find it?

I'm going to move forward with ordering the Geno's unit at this point, and do the actuator myself.

I can't help you with the warranty, but I also can't help but remember you mentioning already having the required Alpha app to do the calibration of an oem actuator, and it's literally a 30 second deal to calibrate.

I realize the early actuators don't have the best track record BUT at least there is a record, which cant be said for the other option with 3x cost.

If they were similar in cost I could see the calculated risk...but it ain't even close. You could buy extras and put them on the shelf....put the money away and let it earn .002 cents per month interest until the next one goes....I think you get the point.

One you know what you are getting and the other you don't.

Makes sense. Yes, I do have Alfa already. I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant doing the calibration, but I'm reading up on it now and it doesn't seem too difficult. Is there a particular actuator you'd recommend I purchase?

Had a friends actuator go out a couple weeks ago. Of course not covered and dealer wanted $4K+ to replace it. TOld him about the city diesel actuator from genos and he went that route. Plug and play and he couldn't be happier. If mine was to ever go that's the route I would go instead of another OEM.

As I stated earlier, I went with the City Diesel actuator. I do not know how long it will last, but everything man made fails sooner or later. What I do know about it, is that the exhaust brake works better now than it ever did with the stock actuator.

I used M&D distributors. There is a refundable core going this route. They emailed me the very day they received my core and the refund credited to my account the following day. Super good people to work with and there are techs there to walk you through any issues you may have. Not saying that you would but it's nice having the option to talk to someone on the other end that isn't a salesman.

Thank you. That is a much better price, and as you say I could literally have a spare. I’m curious if you happen to also know of a source online to order some of the retainer clips for the fender liner. I always end up breaking some, and since I have a new baby at home I’m trying to minimize my trips out to the store right now so I’d prefer to just order them up.
