Will the factory aluminium rims off of a 02 fit a CTD 4x4 truck made between 94-98. I know the back spacing is different and the drums in the rear may need to be turned but other than that, will they go with the extra back spacing?

I have some Chrome steel wheels on my 01 that came off a 97/98 and they fit perfect. I didnt know there where different.

They will fit but I think you have to do some machining to the rear drums to get them to fit. I would stay away from them as they crack quite frequently especially with high loads. I could hook you up with some if my conscience doesn't get the better of me.

Dave,

I have 2001 alloys on my 1997. All I had to do was shave down the outside lip of the rear brake drums. Cost was one hour labor at the local machine shop (they used the brake lathe) I did not have clearance problems on the front end. We did try the same rims on a 1998 12 valve and had clearance problems with the tie rod ends. 5 minutes and a grinder would have fixed it no problem.

I would do this again in a heartbeat. It allows me to run 285s and keep them under the truck. Meaning they do not stick out past the fenders.

T-Bone

T-bone, I have run the 315-75-16 on both of my dodge trucks. Would the 315 go under your 97 with the 2001 alum. rims??

PS(t-bone has been my nickname since high school. small world)

Hey Dave,

I ran BFG 295s with only a very minor rub at full lock turning left on the driver’s side control arm. I have “the spacer” on the passenger side and figure adding one to the driver’s side would cure that since there was no rub when turning right. 395s should fit with minor rubs.

What I liked about the stock alloys is the backspacing. They kept the tires up under the truck.

T-Bone

Ps. Good to know there’s another T-Bone out there with a truck! I spent some time (3 years) in Michigan back in the 80s. I miss the trees and the water!
