I use the Fleetguard pre-mixed that is good for 5 years or 650,000 which ever comes first. It is designed for the bigger trucks but really works nice in our engines.
I've always used Prestone in my trucks, and add 1pt of RMI-25 additive. At 130k on the 03 2 months back , the inside of the radiator looks brand new . I usually service the cooling system every 50-75k , depending on what I've been doing with it.
Use any quality ethylene glycol based coolant NOT a propylene glycol based coolant. Should say it on the back of the jug. I will say Cummins is very proud of their 50/50 mix $$.
I would love to try that fleetguard stuff, I guess Ill order some. I am also going to flush the system a few times, I am sure it had never been done. Thanks for the replys.
When you do your flush of the system, you can save some money and get a really good flush by using Electrosol Powder'd DishWashing Soap for your dish washer. Will cost you about 50 cents and works great.
Drain out the fluids, install fresh water, warm up the truck, 2 caps of Electrosol, go for a 40 mile drive, come back and flush with fresh water 2 more times, drain out and refill with the Fleet Guard.
The Electrosol was recommended to me by the Cummins mechanics at Cummins Northwest as they have found nothing better that works for the price.
