I've been shopping hard for a new Truck. In the 01 bruchure it shows 4 wheel anti-lock brakes as standard equipment. (option list & page 23). At my local 5 screw dealer, the factory sticker list this as a $495. 00 option. While i was in WA last month i was checking on trucks, they all had anti-lock included as standard. Anybody else have to pay extra for this "standard equipment"?

4-wheel ABS was not standard on the 2001 models, but it is standard on the 2001. 5 models. The problem is that the window sticker doesn't tell you about "1/2 year" models - it is just "2001".

This means the truck you are looking at was produced before about July, 2000, and is one of the "older" models. Since your dealer needs to move the "old" stuff, you should be able to get him to come down the extra $495, if not more, otherwise order a new 2001. 5 from someone else for invoice (+/- a few hundred). Also, check and see if the rear is drum or disk. I'll bet the 2001 ABS is front disk / rear drum, the 2001. 5 ABS is for sure 4 wheel disk. This would be yet another reason why the dealer should cut you a sweet deal. Just pretend you REALLY, REALLY wanted 4 wheel disk brakes. #ad

Thanks HC, what makes me real curious is that this truck does have 4 wheel disc brakes. I'm going to check the manufacture date. Were there any other changes for the 01. 5 models?

HC is right. And in my opinion, you want the rear discs. I ordered mine in Feb. and got it in April, so no rear discs. #ad
Rear discs weren't even an option then. I would have waited if I would have known they were going to come out with the rear discs. If I were you, and the truck you're looking at has the rear drums, I'd order a "newer" 2001 to get the rear discs - unless they are considerably under invoice on the "older" '01 on the lot. Also, if you order one, you get to have all that fun of waiting and tracking the order! #ad
: There's a TDR member who has a good connection to a dealer (in Texas?) who will order at invoice for you and have it courtesy delivered to any dealer for $300. -$500. over invoice. I don't know if being in Alaska would up the fee or not.

Sorry Argus, I was typing while you were on the last post. I saw a list of the changes on the 2001. 5 on another thread a while back. It wasn't much - no more black trim on the tailgate and maybe no lighted vanity mirrors on the visors? - besides a few other things. I don't remember for sure. Hey thanks for the replies. I went down to get the truck today and noticed it did not have the rear disc, so i put the ka-boosh on the deal. they've had the truck for 174 days, but insist on making too much money. Salesman said "well just pretend you have rear disc". My wife said well just pretend we wrote you a check! #ad
So i'm back to looking for a truck. Guess i'll check with dealers in the lower 48. - Thanks again. I've learned a lot from this site!

When I was looking I gave the dealership in Juneau a brief look, and I figured Anchorage Chrysler would be a waste of time. I went to Dave Smith Motors in Idaho. I think there web site is usautosales.com. They pick you up at the Spokane airport and have lots to choose from. I went with them because I didn't feel like ordering my truck and waiting for it, and if you find a problem with one just pick another one off the lot! I've also read, on this site, good things about Tacoma Dodge. It's sad when the local merchants want us to shop in-state but discourage us with their pricing strategy.

Just re-read your post. Funny how the dealers will sit on a vehicle for six months trying to make top doller on the sale. My truck was on the lot in Id. less then two weeks when I bought it.
