Funny thing happened on the way to... . well, in the garage today. I went to install the my new power heated tow mirrors (which by the way, is pretty well priced right now by Auto Parts Warehouse | Car Parts, Truck Parts & Auto Body Parts Online - Free Shipping on most Auto Accessories & Performance Parts - AutoPartsWarehouse.

Search under Part Number: MSET-DG49E, though they're now $10 higher than when I bought a few days ago) Anyhow, i made the mistake of not laying the wires in the proper channel and upon tightening up the mirror they didn't work. As a result i pinched the wires in two and blew the IOD(what does that stand for?) fuse. Since I didn't have a spare i borrowed one from the adjacent location, i think it was power locks. After all was repaired and the mirrors working properly, I figured I'd go get a another fuse to replace the one i borrowed from, surpisingly the truck wouldn't run without this Power Lock fuse. So... that's your free Anti theft device and a reminder that if your truck doesn't start check ALL the fuses.

Another wierd note on the power door lock fuse--at least on my truck, if I pull the fuse and let the truck sit for a week, it will drain the batteries down so badly they have to be trickle-charged for several hours before you can even jumpstart the truck. Don't ask me how I know this . . . :(

IOD stands for ignition off draw. It is designed to cut power to anything that might be on with the ignition switch off. It is pulled when the truck is shipped from the factory to make sure the truck does not arrive with dead batteries.

Heh, heh. . well, maybe it's one of those multi-function fuses - anti theft and PCM code reset via battery drain, at any rate I'm not going to test the latter.
