I am reading about several trucks being stolen down here in the RGV and don't want mine to be one of them. Can anyone advise how I can install or have installed some type of switch that would prevent the truck from starting. I would want to be able to access the switch from the driver seat and I am not very good wiring, so be specific if you can help.

Thanks,

Don

If you can afford around $450, the Ravelco anti-theft switch is a professioanlly installes and extreemly effective plug and play.

Ravelco Anti Theft Device

Check em out and also do a search on TDR under "Ravelco".

If you want to spend less and are somewhat mechanically inclined, you can install your own type of kill switch. Do a search on "hidden" or "kill" "switch" and read what comes up.

I have the Ravelco and feel it is only money well spent for peace of mind. Once the pin key is removed from the switch on your dash, the truck will not start and is much too difficult to hot wire.

If you do a search, you can find a thread on TDR about installing a hidden switch that adds a cutout for the clutch circuit... I believe this also applies to the autos as they have a jumper (at the "clutch" circuit) that can be snipped and the same thing done (neutral safety)...

The best part of this is that it makes the truck immobile, it will simply not start.

Not meaning to divert the thread, but my 2003 HO 5. 9 has some kind of an anti-start devise mounted under the dash. The key is flat with six contacts on each side and is 1 1/16 " wide with no markings other than 'made in the usa' on it.

I purchased the truck used and I know it was originally purchased in Las Vegas, NV in early 2003. What do I have?

Thanks.

JDamron: I had one on my 94. Cost about $250+ if i remember.

I hear you can go around it with a quarter. Not sure if it is true but got the impression it is not very good. I paid for it but never realy used it.

I am voting for the RAVELCO. Had mine installed on a tour of duty down in Arizona back in 2008. The illegals were stealing trucks like mine in broad daylight right out of peoples driveways... had to have the peace of mind. did a huge research on all types of anti theft devices. Cheapest biggest bang for the buck? RAVELCO came out on top every time. check it out. Best thing going and I still have my truck!

I have the Ravelco anti-theft, you can't get any better. Alarms make noise, people just ignore them. They are only good in your driveway where YOU can hear them. A single switch within reach of the drivers seat will be discovered quickly by thieves, only so many places you can install them.

tap the wire that go to the starter? another thing is a smarty pod and set the pod setting low and the truck will be so weak that it cant make it in any gear (i know you already have edge / it was just a thing that ive tried)

On my CJ7 I installed a switch, in plain view, and I know it worked at least twice.

The catch is that it didn't look like a switch. It was a bolt, and it looked like all the other bolts except it grounded the ignition circuit. With the bolt removed everything was normal. (bolt just slid into hole)

For the truck I'm going with interrupting the clutch switch. To complete the clutch circuit I will have to put a 2 inch pin (glued to a small dodge ram emblem) in a 1/16" hole "somewhere" on the dash. Using the pin allows for a small hole that doesn't attract attention and if seen would resemble a left over hole from something that isn't mounted there anymore.
