On several gas vehicles I've had, I cut the main power wire to the fuel pump relay, then ran to a switch hidden under my dash (or even one of those old head light dimmer switches placed out of sight under the front carpet mat). This way someone would need to have the keys AND know the location of the secret switch in order to start the vehicle. This method is more convenient than pulling a fuse – and it’s easy to hit for quick stops etc. I have found a secret switch to be helpful as a theft deterrent as well as keeping teenage kids from joy riding when adults are not home. My question for our Diesel trucks; what to kill? The electric fuel pump only feeds the filter and back side of the main fuel pump – I don’t want to damage anything or need to prime the system should there be an attempt to start the truck with the electric pump OFF. I see a starter relay fuse…. perhaps kill the starter relay? I don’t want to do damage. I guess I could try pulling the fuse and attempt to start the truck. Any thoughts anyone?
